Description

Summary:

The Para Sport and Classification Advisor will provide focused classification support within the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS). The role involves delivering localised classification education, insights and support for Paralympic athletes, coaches and support staff, and problem solving through collaboration to identify and deliver changes in support of Australia’s HP 2032+ Para System Uplift goals.

The Advisor will be embedded within TIS to provide daily on the ground support and service. This role will require travel to support both Institutes in alignment with operational needs.

A combination of education, career and lived experience will be used in filling positions with Paralympics Australia. We encourage all applicants to consider the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Para sport, classification and impairment related education and information initiatives for staff, coaches, athletes and key stakeholders.
  • Provide classification insights for talent identification, talent transfer and performance planning in alignment with NSO feedback.
  • Establish and grow State Institute of Sport and State Academy of Sport (SISSAS) allied health provider networks (e.g. prosthetists, occupational therapists).
  • In collaboration with National Sporting Organisation (NSO) sport-specific classification programs, provide support for athlete preparation for classification (e.g. assistance to complete Medical Diagnostic Form (MDF) paperwork, coordination of performance science assessments etc.).

Key Competencies:

  • Classification experience and/or the understanding and/or working knowledge of classification procedures within Para-sports is not required but preferred.
  • Understanding and experience working with or being a part of a performance environment is required.
  • A history demonstrating a range of technical and administrative skills to support process-based functions.
  • Experience working with coaches, athletes, and staff in a performance support environment.
  • Ability to educate and train individuals in classification processes.
  • Experience working with sensitive and confidential information.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in allied health, education and/or sport science is preferable although not essential depending upon experience.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check.
