Network Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert — Contract | Canberra | NV2+ Cleared

About the role
As our Network Infrastructure SME, you’ll set the build direction for core switching, routing and the network fabric across classified environments, and own the segmentation and firewall approach underpinning them. You’ll provide the technical direction our network engineers build to, resolve the blockers that hold up delivery, and validate completed work against approved build documentation and security standards.
What you’ll be doing
- Setting the build approach for core switching, routing and the network fabric — configuration standards, sequencing and integration requirements
- Directing network segmentation implementation using VRFs, VMware NSX and Security Group Tags, across both physical and virtual components
- Directing firewall and network access control build — security policy implementation, rule configuration and network hardening
- Providing technical direction for wireless, 802.1X and EAP implementation supporting operating system and SOE build activities
- Resolving technical issues, dependencies and configuration conflicts blocking network engineers or affecting other infrastructure workstreams
- Coordinating build activities across classified environments to maintain consistent configurations, security controls and delivery outcomes
- Reviewing and validating engineer-delivered configurations, implementation records and test results against approved documentation and ISM, PSPF/DSPF
- Investigating network faults and confirming connectivity between infrastructure services to support system validation and remediation
What we’re looking for
- Deep technical capability across the network technologies required to build and integrate classified environments
- Strong core switching and routing skills — configuration, integration, troubleshooting and validation
- Experience implementing network fabric across physical and virtual infrastructure
- Segmentation experience using VRFs, VMware NSX and Security Group Tags
- Firewall and network access control implementation, including rule configuration, policy enforcement and hardening
- Working knowledge of ISM, PSPF and DSPF
- Experience integrating network services with VMware, identity, security and platform components
- A track record of providing technical direction to engineers and validating their work

You must hold a current Australian Government security clearance at NV2 or above. Opes is not sponsoring new clearances for these positions. Only applicants who currently hold the required clearance will be considered.
