Description

About Number 8 Bio

Methane is the “fast lever” of climate change. It’s 80x more potent than CO2, and 2.6 billion cows and sheep are belching it out every single day. At Number 8 Bio, we’ve figured out how to stop that – by developing methane inhibiting products for cattle and sheep.

We’re a VC-backed team of scientists and innovators turning wasted methane into animal performance (good for farmers 🤝 good for the planet). We’re moving from the lab to the market, and we need hands-on Manufacturing Operators to build the products that are going to save the planet, one bolus at a time.

Fixed Term Part time or Casual Roles Available

The Role: Hands-On Builder, Boots on the Factory Floor

You’ll be at the coalface of turning our science into a real, physical product — running the equipment that makes our bolus, then helping the formulation team push the next version further. Some days you’re following SOPs to the letter on the manufacturing line; other days you’re prototyping a new formulation or rigging up an equipment experiment with the team.

You will:

  • Run the line: Operate manual, bench-scale equipment to manufacture our bolus product, following SOPs precisely — quality and consistency matter.
  • Build what’s next: Work alongside our formulation and manufacturing team to prototype new formulations and test new equipment setups.
  • Keep the warehouse humming: Handle stocktakes, general inventory, and warehouse cleaning — a tidy warehouse is a fast warehouse.
  • good ideas to incrementally improve production processes (move stations, optimise stations etc.).
  • Spot the better way: Bring your ideas for moving stations, optimising layouts, and shaving time off the process — we want incremental improvements to come from the floor, not just from the top down.
  • Make things work: Use your practical skills to modify, build, and improve equipment setup, or from adapting existing machinery to helping create new solutions for our manufacturing processes.
  • Get things where they need to go: Use your own car (mileage covered) for the occasional delivery or pick-up on our behalf.

Who You Are

  • Proactive: You have a bias for action — you spot what needs doing and you do it, without waiting to be asked.
  • Hands-on by nature: Whether you’re a recent grad in formulation science or chemical engineering, or an experienced manufacturing operator, you’d rather be building something real than reading about it.
  • A team player: You’re happy following an SOP one minute and problem-solving with the team the next.
  • Physically capable: Comfortable with labour-intensive work — lifting up to 20kg and operating machinery is part of the job.
  • Licensed and mobile: You hold a current driver’s licence and have access to a car.

The “Nice-to-Haves”

  • You’ve got a forklift licence
  • You enjoy building things and are good with power tools
  • You’ve worked in a lab, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment before

All of the above are a big plus but mostly, we care about your attitude and your work ethic — the rest we can teach.

Why Number 8 Bio?

  • Real Impact: No greenwashing. Real science-backed methane reduction.
  • High Autonomy: You aren’t a cog in a machine. You help shape how we manufacture at scale.
  • The Future: We are tackling one of the biggest problems on Earth. It’s hard, it’s exciting, and it’s important.
