GENERAL MANAGER – MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS (SYDNEY BASED)

On 25 August 2027, Sydney will host the Netball World Cup, uniting 16 of the top international teams for 12 days of elite competition and global celebration. As we mark Netball Australia’s centenary, we’re building a tournament that champions inclusion, empowerment, and innovation, both on and off the court.
The Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 is now seeking a dynamic and experienced Ceremonies and Production Manager to lead the design and delivery of world-class event presentation across tournament venues. This is a rare opportunity to shape the atmosphere, energy, and fan journey at one of the world’s premier sporting events.
About the Role
Reporting to the Interim Deputy CEO, the General Manager – Marketing & Communications, is both a strategically important and exciting role that will lead the development and delivery of an integrated
marketing and communication strategy for the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027, driving fan engagement, maximising brand visibility, ensuring stakeholder alignment and will be a key contributor in the achievement of the tournament commercial and revenue objectives.
Overseeing campaign planning, media relations, PR, content creation, social and digital engagement you will ensure the tournament’s values and legacy objectives are reflected across all channels and drives the promotion and eyeballs onto the tournament through ticket sales and fan engagement.
Key Areas of Focus
Throughout the journey with the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027, this role will lead and deliver a multi-phase marketing strategy to build awareness, drive ticket sales, and promote key tournament
milestones, while embedding legacy themes such as community impact, First Nations and CALD engagement, and sustainability.
Importantly, this role will oversee brand integration with broadcast partners and manage campaign execution across digital, social, print, broadcast, and outdoor channels. As a creative storyteller, the person in this role will drive digital, social, and content strategy and engagement across all platforms, alongside proactive and reactive media initiatives to enhance reputation and maximise attendance.
They will lead fan engagement and activation strategies, and oversee end-to-end delivery of all Marketing, Media, and Communications activity pre, during, and post tournament.
About You
You are a strategic thinker, and a hands-on leader who knows how to make big things happen. With a minimum 6–8 years of experience in digital marketing, media, or communications, ideally in sport, entertainment, or major events and you know how to turn bold ideas into powerful campaigns.
You have led teams, developed & implemented purpose-built marketing strategies, launched campaigns, and delivered results. You thrive in fast-paced environments, love
working across teams and know how to bring people on the journey.

- Proven experience in sport, major events, tournaments or rightsholder organisations
- Data-driven decision-making and marketing strategy planning
- Hands-on campaign development across media, PR, digital, social, content and comms
- Strong stakeholder engagement across commercial, media, government, and sport sectors
- Deep knowledge of brand, content, SEO/SEM, CRM, and analytics
- Exceptional written communication across formats—from press releases to web copy
- A passion for sport, storytelling, and creating campaigns that connect and inspire

Reporting into the Interim Deputy Chief Executive Officer, this full-time role will be based at Sydney Olympic Park, on a fixed-term basis through to October 2027. Given the unique nature of the
sports industry, and the domestic & global reach of our organisation, travelling and working outside of Netball HQ and traditional office hours may be required from time to time.
