The Role:

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of electrical engineering solutions across Minetek’s global projects. This role provides technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, including electrical design, documentation, production support, commissioning, and client engagement.

Working closely with engineering, production, project, and field teams, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer will ensure electrical systems are designed, delivered, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable Australian and international standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical design and engineering delivery of turnkey electrical systems for industrial and mining applications.
  • Develop, review, and approve electrical designs including LV and MV systems, switchboards, motor control systems, control panels, transformers, generators, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Produce detailed engineering documentation including electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, cable schedules, design calculations, test procedures, commissioning documentation, and as-built records.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant standards and regulations including AS3000, AS3008, AS61439, AS4871, UL508A, and other applicable international standards.
  • Provide technical support throughout the manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and handover phases of projects.
  • Participate in commissioning activities, troubleshooting, system testing, and validation of electrical systems at customer sites both locally and internationally.
  • Collaborate with automation and controls teams to develop integrated electrical solutions involving PLCs, HMIs, and control systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical engineers, supporting capability development, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and clients to resolve technical issues and deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across electrical design processes, engineering standards, documentation, and quality systems.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within industrial, mining, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Strong experience designing electrical systems from concept through to commissioning and operational handover.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design principles, switchgear, motor control systems, protection systems, and industrial power distribution.
  • Experience with LV and MV electrical systems, including switchboards, MCCs, transformers, generators, and control panels.
  • Strong understanding of Australian electrical standards including AS3000, AS3008, AS61439, AS4871, and related industry requirements.
  • Experience with control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation is highly desirable.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation, technical reports, commissioning procedures, and project deliverables.
  • Previous experience working within mining, resources, or heavy industrial environments is highly advantageous.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively with engineers, technicians, clients, and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and provide technical leadership within a project environment.
