Description

Are you a recent engineering, science or computer science graduate with a passion for solving problems with data? MaxMine is an Adelaide based business-intelligence-led Fleet Management System (FMS) for open pit mining, and we’re looking for our next Engineering Analyst to help our clients turn operational data into measurable results.

About Us

Mining operations deal in massive-scale operational problems. They “lift and shift” millions of tonnes of material and consume hundreds of millions of dollars per year in operating expenses. A 1% improvement across load and haul fleets can add literally millions to a client’s bottom line. We deliver these improvements today, for clients across Africa and Australia.

MaxMine is a Performance Focused mining Fleet Management System: we apply engineering science, mathematics and advanced analytics to operational data collected directly from mobile mining equipment, store and process it on our cloud platform, and deliver results straight into our clients’ operations bottomline.

About You

We’re looking for an engineer who loves working with data and can make the connection between the story that the data tells and the real world implications. You’ll have a passion for analysis &  developing software tools, and be ready to build that skill set further with us.

  • You’re a curious person and a problem solver
  • You love (or want to learn to love) exploring large datasets, and understand there’s more than one solution to every problem
  • You can write clearly — or want to develop the ability to tell stories with data through well-crafted analysis reports, plots, graphs and charts
  • You can convey (or want to learn to convey) insights simply and effectively to people of all walks of life
  • You like solving problems once, so they stay solved

Some of the Things You’ll Do

We have a huge amount of high-quality data which our customers know contains real value. Our analysis and insights team helps clients with answers to specific questions, including:

  • Detailed technical analysis of equipment operations and maintenance issues
  • Performance trends and analysis for site operations
  • Conceptual analysis, modelling and early-stage prototyping
  • Supporting the development of detection and classification models (for example, identifying when a truck has been loaded from suspension data, or classifying excavator behaviour from IMU data) alongside our data science team
  • And much, much more

This role requires a good handle on working with data to solve real-world problems, plus a creative spirit to look at problems from new perspectives. It’s a genuine opportunity to apply data techniques to engineering and business problems using first-principles thinking — with plenty of support as you grow into the role.

Experience We’re Looking For

We have an ongoing need for engineering analysts to join our team at either graduate and early-career levels. We’d like to hear from people who have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar (recent graduates welcome) for immediate start
  • 0–4 years of experience performing data analysis of any sort
  • Some exposure to solving real-world problems with algorithms or software (university projects count!)
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Exposure to SQL and statistics is a strong plus, but not mandatory
  • Attention to detail and a drive to follow through on solving a client’s actual problem
  • Eager to learn and develop skills using LLM tools
  • A commercial mindset, focused on value for our clients and our business

Our Technology

Day to day, you’ll work with our analytics stack:

  • Python
  • Snowflake
  • bokeh / Panel

As you grow, there’s scope to work across our broader platform, including Kafka, Flink, Dagster and Kubernetes (AWS EKS). You don’t need to know all of the above on day one — you just need to be willing and able to learn.

Our Values

Our team’s cohesion and success draws from a culture of shared values. We welcome applicants who identify with the following, fostering an environment where both the individual and the company thrive through collaboration.

  • Customer — We play the long game, as one team
  • Impact — We move the needle for our customers, people & environment
  • Ubuntu — We believe ‘I am because we are’
  • Finishing — We celebrate when things are done
  • Excellence — We take pride in our work. Quality output with a sense of urgency
  • Playful spirit — We have a good laugh

What We Offer

  • A structured career pathway, with mentorship from experienced analysts and engineers
  • Lots of chances to learn and grow — you’ll be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the city, in a culture that values sharing knowledge every day
  • A competitive compensation package
  • Training and development budget
  • The opportunity to shape your role, our team and our product
  • We treat you as a person
