Assistant Winemaker

As a family-owned and operated producer, our commitment remains firmly focused on creating site expressive wines of exceptional quality. We are seeking a passionate and motivated Assistant Winemaker to join our dynamic winery team in Margaret River, Western Australia.

About the Role

Reporting to the Winemaker and Senior Winemaker, this permanent full-time position plays a key role in supporting all facets of winery operations, quality management and cellar leadership.

This is a hands-on role suited to a technically skilled and highly organised wine professional who thrives in a collaborative, quality-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and implementation of daily, weekly and seasonal cellar operations
  • Support the management of winery quality systems and laboratory operations
  • Coordinate and communicate winery processes with cellar and production teams
  • Conduct and support winery team meetings and staff inductions
  • Participate in the winemaking tasting panel and contribute informed sensory assessments
  • Manage routine wine adjustments in accordance with winemaking specifications
  • Assist with bottling operations in conjunction with the Bottling Line Manager
  • Support winery research trials, product development and innovation projects
  • Generate cellar worksheets and job orders using winery software systems
  • Contribute to winery maintenance coordination and water harvesting systems
  • Lead and maintain high workplace health and safety standards

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Winemaking, Oenology or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 vintages’ experience as an Assistant Winemaker or similar senior winery role
  • Strong practical understanding of winery operations and winemaking principles
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and lead teams during vintage operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational ability
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs

Desirable

  • Experience with Vinsight winery systems
  • Forklift licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in winery trials and experimental design
