About the position…
The Reunification Practitioner is responsible for the implementation and support of the parents, children, young people and extended family members as stated in the Department for Child
Protection Reunification Case Plan (DCP). Practitioners will provide therapeutic support, advocacy, referrals, and support reunification court, information to the biological parents referred into the reunification program by DCP.
The Practitioner is a highly experienced and competent Practitioner, who delivers dedicated support and cultural services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, allocated within the service. The Practitioner is responsible for contributing to improvements in the quality, safety and community needs-driven distribution of services that meet the safety needs of Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
We have (1) full-time or part-time vacancy available for an initial 12-month period, with a high likelihood of extension.
Key Responsibilities…
- Provide case management and casework responses for families.
- Undertake risk assessments and safety planning that seeks and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Working to undertake DCP Reunification Case Plan and achievement of the stated outcomes.
- Attend weekly and monthly DCP case consultation reviews and all reunification court matter.
- Assist the families to develop and sustain significant change.
- Work under the direction of the Program Coordinator, Director, Executive Director and CEO; with the reunification program.
- Promote and implement quality service responses that are underpinned and informed by cultural values and service delivery model.
About you…
Essential
- Demonstrated experience applying clinical and therapeutic understanding of the impacts of trauma and trauma informed practice, child protection, complex case management and skills in negotiation, advocacy and responding to crisis and high risk and complex cases.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander families and communities in child protection system.
- Excellent oral and written skills, with the ability to write court report, referral and case
notes.
- Ability to design and coordinate therapeutic and trauma informed activities that engage vulnerable
families.
- Ability to work in a sensitive, complex and demanding environment with a high degree of autonomy and self-management and seek guidance when as required.
- Ability to work independently, professionally and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary
team and partnership with child protection and other external agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to cooperate positively within a team to achieve team goals and consistent service quality.
- Strong computer skills with ability to learn client data systems.
Desirable
- Tertiary degree qualifications as a Social Worker, Counselling Social Work, Psychology
Social Sciences, or a Diploma in Community Services, Human Services, Health Sciences, and/or relevant experience commensurate with the position.
- We would strongly prefer a practitioner that has 2 or more years’ experience as a reunification practitioner with knowledge and skills of the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017

Job requirements…
- You must hold a current South Australian Driver’s License or a license which permits you to drive in South Australia.
