About the position…
The Aboriginal Youth Worker’s role is to empower and inspire young people to reach their full potential. This is achieved by providing young people with positive guidance, support, and mentoring to positively contribute to their community by fostering personal growth, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Working within a Trauma Responsive Framework, the role strives to enhance the lives of young people.
The Aboriginal Youth Worker is a highly experienced and competent worker in the complex case management of young people. The worker is responsible for contributing to improvements in the quality, safety and community needs-driven distribution of services that meet the needs of Aboriginal individuals and their families.
This position is offered part time (0.5 FTE) as a fixed-term appointment for a duration of twelve (12) months. At the conclusion of this initial term, the organisation may, at its discretion, consider an extension of employment. Any such extension would be contingent upon the candidate’s demonstrated performance and may involve placement within another team of the organisation. Continuation beyond the initial term is not guaranteed and shall be subject to mutual agreement and organisational requirements.
Due to the nature of this role and the cultural needs of our women clients, this position is open to women only. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities…
- Provide complex case management and therapeutic support using a trauma-informed, culturally safe framework.
- Walk alongside Aboriginal families, building trust and supporting safety, wellbeing, healing and recovery.
- Ability to work in a sensitive, complex and demanding environment with a high degree of autonomy and self-management.
- Provide advocacy, cultural support, and facilitate access to services and referrals.
- Support access to community resources and identifying opportunities to address therapeutic needs.
About you…
The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in delivering complex case management, trauma-informed and culturally responsive support to Aboriginal families, and be committed to cultural healing, self-determination and strengths-based practice. The applicant will possess a strong understanding of child protection and/or domestic, family and sexual violence.

Competitive salary: $ 44,045 to $ 47,394 (range dependent on experience and qualifications). Classification under the SCHADS Award (SCHADS 4) Part time (0.5 FTE)

- You must hold a current South Australian Driver’s License or a license which permits you to drive in South Australia.
