Description

We are looking for a supportive team member to help young people re-engage with school.

Kiama Community College is seeking a motivated and reliable Program Assistant to support our Youth Worker / Program Facilitator in delivering our School Engagement Support Program (SESP) across local Shoalhaven and Illawarra high schools.

The SESP is a targeted, structured program for students in Years 8–10 who are showing early signs of disengagement from school and their learning. Funded by the Department of Education, the program provides meaningful learning opportunities aimed at improving overall school attendance, engagement and wellbeing.

About the Role

Working alongside the Facilitator, the primary function of this role is to support the delivery of the program to small groups of students across a selection of Shoalhaven and Illawarra high schools.

The program includes:

  • Personal development and wellbeing activities
  • Cultural awareness learning
  • Employability skills development
  • Outdoor recreation experiences (guided by KCC Ltd.)
  • Individualised care coordination support to achieve program outcomes

Your responsibilities will include assisting with group facilitation, supporting student participation, and providing individual support where required. You will also assist with program setup, logistics, and creating a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.

This is a physically active role, which may include supporting students in activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, and bushwalking.

About You

You are passionate about working with young people and confident in supporting those who may be at risk of disengaging from school. You are a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with young people (school, community, or youth setting)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to fulfil the physical requirements of the role
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Current National Police Check (NPC)
