Foundation Skills Trainer and Assessor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and assess accredited Foundation Skills training in accordance with the VET Quality Framework and relevant Training Packages or accredited curriculum.
  • Create engaging, inclusive, and learner-centred training experiences tailored to adult learners with diverse needs.
  • Develop and maintain course documentation including Training and Assessment Strategies, Delivery Plans, Assessment Plans, lesson plans, and learning activities.
  • Prepare and manage training resources (e.g., handouts, visual aids, presentations, assessment tools).
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records including attendance rolls, assessment records, and evaluation forms.
  • Participate in validation of assessment tools and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
  • Liaise with other trainers to share resources and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with College policies, legislative requirements, and safety protocols including WHS, EEO, and Child Protection.
  • Report incidents, hazards, and grievances as per College procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe training environment.
  • Provide students with information about College services and support.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain industry currency.
  • Attend relevant workshops and contribute to the College’s professional learning community.
  • Uphold the values and standards of Kiama Community College.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110, TAE40116 or TAE40122).
  • Relevant qualifications at or above the level being delivered.

For Generalist LLN/Foundation Skills Practitioners:

TAESS00009 – Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set, or

TAESS00026 – Foundation Skills Integration Skill Set (TAE40122 with electives TAELLN421, TAELLN422, TAELLN423).

For Language, Literacy & Numeracy Trainers:

Bachelor Degree with postgraduate teaching qualifications, or

TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice.

  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel between Wollongong and Nowra.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across educational, business, and community contexts.
  • Proven skills in group facilitation, administration, conflict resolution, and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to quality training and assessment practices aligned with RTO Standards.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and maintain vocational competency.
