Description

Turn evidence into information that changes women’s lives.

Every day, women turn to Jean Hailes for answers about their health, often at moments when clarity matters most. We’re looking for an experienced health and medical writer to provide leadership and to shape the evidence-based information that reaches hundreds of thousands of Australian women each year.

This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on writing with editorial leadership. You’ll translate complex clinical research and guidelines into content that’s accurate, accessible and genuinely useful, from menopause to periods, migraine to healthy ageing. All while building the processes, standards and team that keep our content trustworthy at scale.

About us

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health (“Jean Hailes”) is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women to enjoy their best health and wellbeing at every life stage. We work with and alongside others to inform, influence and support all women, and we recognise the need for additional support for women facing the most significant social, cultural and structural barriers to good health and wellbeing. We achieve change through four strategic pillars: health information, advocacy, clinical expertise and partnerships. Our vision is an Australia in which gender has no influence on health and wellbeing outcomes.

What you’ll do

Write and lead content strategy. Write and edit high-quality, evidence-based women’s health information across all levels of health literacy.

Own editorial quality. Set and maintain the editorial standards, style guides and quality assurance processes that keep our content clear, consistent and trustworthy.

Lead and collaborate. Manage a small team plus a network of freelance health and medical writers. Partner closely with our Head of Evidence and Insights, clinicians and subject matter experts to ensure every piece of content reflects the best available evidence.

Shape how we work. Explore how AI-assisted tools can responsibly support content delivery with human judgement and accountability always front and centre.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in life sciences or health sciences, or in communications/journalism combined with a strong science background
  • Significant experience as a health or medical writer, with a strong portfolio of consumer-facing health content and excellent written English
  • Confidence interpreting research and clinical data, and working with clinical reviewers and evidence processes
  • Experience managing editorial standards, quality assurance and contributors
  • Sound editorial and ethical judgement, and a calm, systems-minded approach to getting things right
  • Experience with SEO/AEO content practices is a bonus
