The Role
Seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Systems Engineer / Test and Evaluation Specialist to work within a Defence Communications Delivery Team. This role will deliver next generation Land Command, Control, Communications and Computing capability. The successful candidate will support the modernisation and enhancement of systems at the operational and tactical
level, helping Defence achieve decision-making superiority and improve command and control, intelligence, sensors and weapon system effects across the Land Domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply professional knowledge and skills through a systems engineering approach in the development and integration of projects to meet Defence capability needs.
- Work under limited direction to undertake complex systems engineering tasks, including preparation of technical certification plans and engineering documentation.
- Engage with stakeholders, investigate systems engineering concepts, and support the development of system specifications and engineering plans in support of the Defence materiel capability lifecycle.
- Provide professional engineering advice to support land worthiness of land military equipment and systems, in accordance with applicable engineering governance frameworks.
- Conduct and support Preview Test and Evaluation, Acceptance Test and Evaluation, and provide assistance to Operational and In-Service Test and Evaluation activities in accordance with
Defence requirements.
- Manage risk and perform Verification and Validation processes to ensure compliance with system, safety and performance requirements.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of Defence Test and Evaluation frameworks, policies, processes and governance obligations.
- Apply Test and Evaluation and Systems Engineering policy throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Establish milestones and advise on the assignment of tasks and responsibilities.
About You
You will be an experienced engineering professional with a strong systems engineering background and demonstrated Test and Evaluation expertise within Defence or a comparable complex environment. You will be comfortable working under limited direction, managing competing priorities,
mitigating risk and engaging effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will bring relevant knowledge of C4 systems in the land domain and the ability to support the One Defence Capability System framework to achieve government approval.
Essential Criteria
- Previous Defence -Army
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering with four or more years’ systems engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the Defence
Test and Evaluation function.
- Demonstrated experience in the engineering of complex Defence systems, including capabilities
and Test and Evaluation activities.
- Proven capability to perform complex technical work across multiple lines of effort and deliverables.
- High familiarity with relevant engineering standards, methods, tools and applications.
- Ability to analyse requirements and recommend options for Test and Evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to meet technical and project objectives.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to gain and hold Technical Authority under the Technical Regulatory Framework Land.
Desirable Criteria
- Industry and specialty experience in the broader Systems Engineering skill set.
- Strong understanding of ICT architectures, networks, platforms, cyber/security compliance and governance.
- Experience in assessing and evaluating risk.
- Understanding of radio and satellite communications.
- Chartered Professional Engineer status through Engineers Australia and registration on the National Engineering Register.
- Demonstrated experience developing key engineering project artefacts such as Verification Cross Reference Matrices and Verification and Validation plans
Additional Information:
- Role Type: Full Time
- Clearance: Current AGSVA NV1 minimum required
- Location: Canberra preferred, or Melbourne. Onsite attendance is required for a minimum of three days per week.
- This requires access to US export-controlled material. Applicants will therefore be required to disclose any dual citizenship with another country, as well as their country of birth.
