The Role

The SHFC Program is responsible for the provision of the Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS). Capability is provided through Sustainment under CJC10, and enhancement under the JP9101 Project. The Systems Engineer JP9101 Level 3 is an advanced practitioner responsible for facilitating complex engineering activities within the JP9101 Project, ensuring delivery of the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS) capability. Operating under broad direction, the role exercises technical authority, professional judgment, and initiative to influence engineering outcomes, manage technical risk, and assure compliance with Defence standards and IC3SPO Quality Management System (QMS).

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer JP9101 L3 is to:

• Facilitate JP9101 engineering activities across acquisition and integration phases, ensuring EDHFCS capability requirements are met.

• Provide engineering advice and assurance on system design, integration, and verification activities across all relevant contracts.

• Develop, review, and endorse complex engineering documentation, including system specifications, design packages, and technical risk registers.

• Exercise advanced engineering delegations as issued by the Chief Engineer IC3SPO, ensuring compliance with technical governance frameworks.

• Identify, assess, and manage technical risks and uncertainties, implementing mitigation strategies and influencing project decision-making.

• Represent JP9101 engineering interests in technical forums, working groups, and mandated system reviews with contractors and stakeholders.

• Mentor and guide Level 2 engineers, fostering technical capability development and promoting best practice engineering processes.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate engineering inputs across all discipline streams, ensuring alignment with program objectives.

• Maintain compliance of JP9101 engineering processes with IC3SPO QMS and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

• All other tasks as directed.

About You

Responsibilities & Experience:

In addition to the defined responsibilities of the position, the following requirements of this position are considered fundamental to the Systems Engineer JP9101 L3;

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (or equivalent) or ability to attain chartered status.
  • Extensive experience in systems engineering within Defence acquisition programs, including ODCS knowledge.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering activities and influence technical outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience in technical leadership roles.

ASDEFCON suite experience and familiarity with Defence policy and regulatory frameworks.

  • Communicate effectively with CASG’s Defence customers, supporting and other related elements of CASG, and Defence and industry partners.
