The Role
This role requires demonstrated experience in:
- Systems Engineering with skills in planning, specification & design in multiple phases of a
program.
- Development and integration of personal location devices and the resulting data in
centralised command and control eco-systems
- Systems Engineering within CASG or similar acquisition environment.
- DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Analysis, design, review, and delivering high quality engineering documentation to
support Government approvals and materiel delivery.
- Initiative, creativity and responsibility to perform a range and variety of complex
technical work activities with limited guidance.
- Managing technical and integration risks.
- Working in complex and challenging environments.
- Working in a complex stakeholder system.
- Communications related software, and the associated enabling services and
infrastructure.
- Applying testing and evaluation techniques across the system development life cycle.
- Highly effective, formal and informal communication skills including advanced technical
writing skills.
- Initiative in keeping personal skills up to date, maintaining awareness of industry
developments and pursuing continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ability to analyse, design, plan, execute, and evaluate work to time, cost and quality
targets while assessing and evaluating risk.
About You
You will need to have the following essential experience and / or Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/computers/communications/networking or similar)
or an equivalent qualification that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord
for recognition as a professional engineer – Required to enable granting of engineering
authorities and/or technical regulatory delegations.
- More than 8 year’s engineering experience and more than 5 years’ experience in the
field of systems engineering.
- Experience in Beyond-Line-Of-Sight Friendly Force Tracking (BLOS FFT) (or similar)
capabilities (encompassing personal devices and software/data integration of location
information into centralised command and control eco-systems)
- A current security clearance (minimum NV1).
- Comprehensive understanding in engineering of complex Defence systems.
- Understanding of Defence processes and structure.
- Understanding of the One Defence Capability System (formerly the Capability Life Cycle).
- Very strong written and oral communication skills.

Highly Desirable Experience and / or Qualifications:
- Experience working in a Defence CASG engineering and/or project environment.
- Postgraduate qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in software
engineering.
- Experience in pre-Acquisition project activities including design, development and tender
evaluations.
- Experience in the design, development and support of operational military
communications and ICT systems.
- Knowledge and experience in ICT, engineering, cyber-security and integrated logistic
support (ILS) processes and procedures in accordance with industry and Defence policy,
standards and recognised best practices including test planning, conduct and
automation.
- Experience with systems safety and cyber security.
- Experience with Australian Defence Force Land Domain tactical communications and ICT
technologies.
- A sound understanding of DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience with the MS Azure environment.
- Experience with Linux based operating systems
