The Role
The Systems Engineer role is accountable to the CAF16 Engineering Manager under broad direction to perform and achieve design, integration and testing within an integrated workforce. This requires an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making, the Land Materiel Safety Manual (LMSM), Defence Aviation Safety Regulation and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. This position reports to the CAF16 Senior Engineering Manager through the Engineering Manager (EM).
About You
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Activities
- Maintain engineering artefacts for CAF16 systems, including:
– Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP)
– Technical Certification Plans (TCP)
- Support engineering and configuration management activities for CAF16 systems.
- Assist and provide guidance to the Engineering Manager and System Managers on:
– engineering activities
– configuration management
– systems integration activities
– capability engineering requirements
– procedural documentation
– systems engineering documentation
– technical certification documentation
– integration documentation
- Act as the interface between the CAF16 Engineering Manager and CAF16 System Managers, working collaboratively across integrated teams.
- Assist the CAF16 Engineering Manager in preparation for:
– Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)
– JC2SPO Engineering Review Boards (ERBs)
- Perform quality control reviews of engineering documentation submitted by vendors to the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA).
- Support CAF16 and JC2SPO engineering teams in conducting engineering audits of support services vendors.
- Attain Technical/Engineering Authority commensurate with experience, knowledge and qualifications.
- Develop and authorise Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) appropriate to assigned Technical/Engineering Authority.
- Undertake additional engineering and project support activities as required.
Desired Experience & Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and familiarity with:
- CASG project engineering activities and planning.
- Systems Engineering within a Defence/CASG environment, including:
– SEMP
– Technical Certification Plans
– Requirements Management
- Software system safety, security and technical risk management.
- Defence Command and Control (C2) systems and applications.
- Engineering governance, configuration management and integration activities.
- Modern networking, computer systems and operating systems.
- Advanced technical writing and documentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- The ability to work with limited guidance while demonstrating initiative, accountability and sound judgement.
