The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the delivery of secure, scalable and high-quality data engineering solutions within a complex national security environment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will design, develop and maintain data pipelines, analytical environments, data stores and integration solutions that enable the collection, transformation, storage and analysis of data from a variety of sources. You will contribute to data architecture, interoperability, storage, analysis and transmission capabilities while applying modern data engineering tools, programming techniques and best practices to solve complex business challenges.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining data models, data stores and analytical environments, implementing data quality controls, and supporting the secure storage, integration and transport of data and metadata. The role also contributes to data governance, risk management and the protection of information through secure storage and transmission mechanisms.
This opportunity is available in Canberra (ACT) or Melbourne (VIC) and is primarily onsite, subject to operational requirements.
Candidates must hold a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance and successfully complete an Organisation Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.
This is an opportunity to contribute to critical Defence and national security outcomes while working with advanced technologies and highly skilled technical teams within one of Australia’s leading intelligence agencies.

- An understanding of data accessibility, interoperability and data re-use principles, including the ability to support data sharing and governance requirements.
- Experience assessing, preparing and managing datasets to support analysis, integration and operational outcomes.
- Knowledge of storage management practices, including monitoring capacity, performance, availability and operational metrics.
- Experience maintaining operational procedures and contributing to the implementation of new storage capabilities, upgrades and system improvements.
- An understanding of data governance, security and risk management principles, including the protection of data through secure storage, transmission and backup mechanisms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options and deliver practical solutions to complex data engineering challenges.
- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide technical advice and guidance to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- A current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance and willingness to successfully complete an Organisation Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.
Desirable experience includes working within Defence, National Intelligence Community or other highly secure government environments.
