The Role

The Regional Marine Engineer (Darwin) will be embedded with the Maintenance Centre in Darwin, supporting Darwin-based vessel sustainment activities. The role will act as a delegated Technical Authority, ensuring alignment between Key organisation sustainment requirements, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and providing technical oversight for engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Regional Marine Engineer (Darwin) function may include:

  • Act as a Technical Authority for engineering decisions, ensuring compliance with Navigation Act, Safety Management System, and AMSA regulations.
  • Translate Defence sustainment documents to align with organisation maritime engineering obligations.
  • Facilitate direct relationships with RMC, Norsta, and Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
  • Provide engineering advice to ensure that sustainment priorities align with contractor deliverables.
  • Support Engineering Change (EC) implementation and verify Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) for completed work.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately recorded in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS); and
  • Provide on-site engineering assurance for depot-level activities, including test and trial acceptance.
  • Conduct oversight of survey and re-certification work.

About You

The Regional Marine Engineer (Darwin) will have experience in conducting engineering investigations, preferably for a maritime or similar operational environment.

The Regional Marine Engineer (Darwin) will have sound experience in analysing technical plans, writing critiques of technical plans, and providing engineering solutions to complex issues.

Essential Experience:

  • Possess or able to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Experience in maritime engineering and sustainment, particularly with patrol vessels or similar assets.
  • Strong knowledge of technical authority delegation, regulatory compliance, and engineering standards; and
  • Ability to work on-site with stakeholders to deliver sustainment outcomes.

Highly Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with Cape Class or similar vessels.
  • Familiarity with Defence sustainment frameworks and ASDEFCON contracts.
