Description

About Us

IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is part of IAG, a specialist advisory firm supporting complex infrastructure, Defence and national security programs across Australia.

Our DNS team works closely with Commonwealth agencies and industry partners to deliver specialist expertise into nationally significant programs. Our success depends on our ability to identify, engage and mobilise highly specialised talent quickly and effectively. IAG is recognised as Veteran Friendly Employer under the Veteran Employment Program.

The Role

(Model‑Based Systems Engineering – Defence Program). As an MBSE Modeller, you will develop, refine and maintain model‑based systems engineering artefacts that support a complex Defence capability environment. You will work closely with systems engineers, architects and program stakeholders to translate operational concepts, requirements and system behaviours into structured MBSE models that enable traceability, integration and informed decision‑making.

You will use CATIA SoSA to produce modelling artefacts within a collaborative team environment, applying SysML constructs at the System‑of‑Systems (SoS) level. You will contribute to architectural modelling, mission thread development, interface definitions, behavioural modelling and configuration‑controlled model baselines.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining MBSE models aligned with Defence mission engineering processes.
  • Producing modelling artefacts in CATIA SoSA and supporting collaborative model development.
  • Applying SysML constructs to analyse and represent SoS‑level behaviours, interactions and architectures.
  • Supporting model governance, configuration control and multi‑team collaboration practices.
  • Contributing to the transition models
  • Preparing model‑based documentation, diagrams and visualisations for technical reviews.
  • Supporting Defence stakeholders by explaining model intent, structure and implications.
  • Assisting with MBSE training, guidance and uplift activities for Defence personnel.
  • Participating in mission engineering thread development and architecture framework alignment.

Location Requirement: This role is Canberra‑based, on‑site at Russell Offices. Remote work is not permitted.

About You

Essential –

  • Demonstrated understanding of Defence Mission Engineering processes and how MBSE toolsets support them.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using CATIA SoSA to develop modelling artefacts in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SysML, with the ability to apply SysML constructs to SoS‑level modelling and analysis.

Highly Desirable –

  • Experience modelling systems‑of‑systems using Defence‑aligned architecture frameworks.
  • Expertise transitioning CATIA SoSA models from SysML 1.x → SysML 2.0.
  • Familiarity with NAF v4.0 and UAF.
  • Familiarity with Holocentric Modelpedia for presenting modelled content, user guides and SOPs.
  • Experience developing Mission Engineering Threads in a Defence context.
  • Strong Defence stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, particularly bridging gaps between operators and engineers.
  • Experience delivering MBSE training or capability uplift activities.
  • Experience developing and applying governance frameworks for modelled data in multi‑team environments.
  • Experience with CATIA SoSA and Teamwork Cloud administration (users, groups, permissions, licence files).

Other Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in systems engineering, engineering, computer science or similar.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate Defence security clearance (Australian citizenship required).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in structured, high‑governance environments.
