The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Consultant to join a Defence capability program supporting a modernisation project. Working within the Communications Delivery Team, you will provide cyber security assessment, authorisation and assurance services to support the delivery and sustainment of critical Land Command, Control, Communications and Computing capabilities. This role requires a highly capable cyber security professional who can operate effectively in a complex Defence environment, provide trusted advice to stakeholders, assess cyber risks, and support compliance with Defence and Australian Government security requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct System Assessment and Authorisation activities in accordance with Defence and Australian Government cyber security frameworks.
  • Perform assessments against the Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Defence Security Policy Framework and requirements.
  • Undertake Operational Effectiveness Reviews (OER) and Design Effectiveness Reviews (DER).
  • Audit the effectiveness of cyber security controls across Defence capability systems.
  • Develop Security Assessment Reports (SARs), Authority to Operate (ATO) briefs, risk assessments and remediation recommendations.
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate cyber security and business risks.
  • Assess vulnerabilities relating to security exceptions, software defects and architecture or design weaknesses.
  • Conduct threat modelling and cyber security architecture assessments.
  • Review system security documentation, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Defence requirements.
  • Support Change Control Boards (CCBs) and configuration governance activities.
  • Provide cyber security advice to project and engineering stakeholders.
  • Support capability delivery teams in understanding and mitigating cyber security risks.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Defence, project, sustainment and operational stakeholders

About You

You are an experienced cyber security professional with strong Defence or complex ICT systems experience. You have a solid understanding of security assessment and authorisation activities, cyber governance, risk management and compliance frameworks. You are capable of producing high-quality technical assessments while working collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in DCIAB-CSAA as a Cyber Security Assessor
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor and/or IRAP accreditation.
  • Knowledge of radio and satellite communications systems and/or Defence-specific systems.
  • Understanding of modern networking, operating systems and ICT environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality technical reports and assessment artefacts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid arrangement with a minimum of 3 days per week, week on week onsite
