The Role
Based at Garden Island, Sydney, the Commercial Officer will support the delivery of critical Defence capability outcomes through the effective management of commercial, financial and procurement activities within a complex program environment.
The role is responsible for supporting program budgeting, financial forecasting, contract management, procurement activities and commercial assurance processes to ensure program objectives are achieved in accordance with governance and compliance requirements.
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will manage contract performance, monitor financial activities, support procurement processes, contribute to commercial planning and provide advice that supports informed decision-making. You will also play a key role in maintaining commercial compliance, documenting lessons learnt and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the program.
About You
You are an experienced commercial, procurement or contract management professional with the ability to operate effectively within a complex government or Defence environment.
You will possess demonstrated experience in:
- Budget management, financial forecasting and accrual activities
- Contract management, administration and performance monitoring
- Procurement planning and delivery, including work packages, contract change proposals and scope development
- Commercial governance, compliance and assurance activities
- Managing purchase orders, invoices and financial documentation
- Conducting commercial reviews, audits and cost assurance activities
- Stakeholder engagement and relationship management across multiple organisations
- Preparing high-quality commercial, financial and governance documentation
- Supporting commercial decision-making through sound analysis and advice
To be successful in this role, you will have strong communication and organisational skills, a proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Experience working within Defence, CASG, maritime sustainment or other complex government environments will be highly regarded.
