The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Test and Evaluation Practitioner to support a Defence-focused software test and evaluation program. This role will conduct verification, validation and broader test and evaluation activities across software systems, products and capability outcomes within a complex Defence environment. The role will support planning, execution, reporting and
assurance activities in line with relevant Defence test and evaluation frameworks, policies and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct and support software test and evaluation activities across Defence capability projects, products and programs.
- Apply verification and validation methods to assess software systems against agreed requirements, performance expectations and capability outcomes.
- Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, evaluation reports, progress reporting and supporting assurance documentation.
- Conduct test execution, analyse results, document findings and provide evidence-based recommendations to support decision-making.
- Support test and evaluation activities throughout the capability lifecycle, including alignment with
relevant Defence frameworks, policy and guidance.
- Engage with technical teams, project stakeholders and capability representatives to coordinate test
activities and communicate outcomes.
- Prepare clear written reporting to support monthly work plans, progress updates, acceptance activities and contract deliverables. Identify risks, issues and dependencies relating to software testing, evaluation readiness and capability assurance.
- Provide specialist test and evaluation advice to support delivery of secure, reliable and effective Defence capability outcomes.
About You
You are an experienced test and evaluation professional with a strong background in software systems, verification and validation, and Defence capability delivery. You are confident operating in structured, policy-driven environments and can produce high-quality documentation, reporting
and stakeholder briefings. You bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to translate technical findings into practical recommendations for project and capability stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in software test and evaluation, including verification, validation, planning, execution, analysis and reporting. Experience supporting test and evaluation activities within Defence, national security or other complex government technology environments.
- Strong understanding of systems and software engineering testing practices, including requirements traceability, test case development and evaluation evidence.
- Ability to prepare high-quality documentation, including test plans, evaluation reports, progress reports, work plans and assurance artefacts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to project, technical and senior stakeholders.
- Must be an Australian citizen and hold a current AGSVA NV1 security clearance.
