The Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Assurance Specialist / Independent Assurance Consultant to provide assurance services for a nationally significant software platform. This opportunity will suit professionals with strong experience in software assurance, testing, verification, auditing or quality
assurance within highly regulated environments. You will assess software accuracy, reliability and compliance against legislative and operational requirements, providing independent advice and assurance to support critical business outcomes. The role offers a mix of onsite and remote work, with engagement extending through to late 2028.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent assurance and verification activities on complex software systems.
- Assess software outputs against legislative, business and operational requirements.
- Review, analyse and validate software functionality, testing methodologies and system performance.
- Identify risks, issues and potential areas of non-compliance and provide recommendations for remediation.
- Develop assurance reports, technical findings, risk assessments and supporting documentation.
- Support reassessment activities associated with software updates, legislative changes or system enhancements.
- Maintain quality assurance frameworks and evidence-based assessment processes.
- Engage with technical teams and stakeholders to clarify requirements, findings and recommendations.
- Contribute to testing strategies, test data validation and verification activities.
- Provide timely advice and assurance services within potentially compressed delivery timeframes.
About You
- Demonstrated experience delivering independent software assurance, audit, quality assurance, verification or testing services.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles,
system testing methodologies and quality management practices. Experience assessing complex software systems within government, regulated or mission-critical environments.
- Ability to identify technical, operational and compliance risks and provide practical mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical, documentation and report-writing skills, including the preparation of detailed assurance findings and risk assessments.
- Experience leading or supporting software reviews, audits, verification activities or independent assessment programs.
- Ability to work with technical specialists and business stakeholders to understand system requirements and expected outcomes.
- Experience developing and executing testing approaches, validation activities and assurance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes and changing operational requirements.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in software engineering, quality assurance, auditing, testing or related disciplines will be highly regarded.
Additional Information
- Contract commencement: November 2026.
- Location: ACT with hybrid working arrangements available. Some activities may require work to be undertaken onsite within a secure office environment.
- A current AGSVA Baseline required
- Australian Citizenship is required.
- Candidates may be required to complete additional probity, conflict of interest and risk assessment documentation as part of the engagement process.
