The Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a major Defence communications capability program. Working within a complex stakeholder environment, you will support capability planning, requirements development, work package delivery and project governance activities. You will work closely with Defence stakeholders, industry partners and capability managers to help deliver critical communications capabilities that support Defence operational outcomes. This role is ideal for a project management professional with Defence capability development experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills and an understanding of the One Defence Capability System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Director and project leadership team in delivering project outcomes and capability objectives.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand and capture future capability requirements.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities across Defence, industry and capability management organisations.
  • Support the planning, development and management of project work packages.
  • Review and evaluate proposals, project documentation and delivery plans.
  • Contribute to capability planning, risk reduction activities and Fundamental Inputs to Capability considerations.
  • Support commercial activities, business case development and assurance processes.
  • Monitor project progress, risks, issues and dependencies to support successful delivery outcomes.
  • Prepare project documentation, briefs, reports and submissions for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships to support capability delivery and transition activities.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience delivering project management outcomes within Defence, government or complex technical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of communications technologies and the ability to engage effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting Defence capability acquisition, sustainment or capability development programs.
  • Understanding of the One Defence Capability System and Defence governance processes.
  • Experience preparing high-quality project documentation, briefing papers, reports and executive submissions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, risks, schedules and project dependencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, solve problems and drive outcomes in complex environments.
  • Experience supporting business case development, assurance activities, capability planning or commercial activities will be highly regarded.

  • Location: Canberra, ACT. Working arrangements: Primarily onsite, with hybrid arrangements potentially available subject to operational requirements.
  • Security Clearance: Current NV1 security clearance required.
