The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Outfitting Engineer to join a maritime engineering program team in Canberra. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise in outfitting systems to take on a delegated technical authority role, reviewing and certifying engineering design across a major shipbuilding program.

You’ll work closely with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer, overseeing design review, acceptance and certification of outfitting elements, while helping build technical capability within the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct design review, design acceptance and technical certification of outfitting engineering elements
  • Exercise delegated technical authority across furnishings, habitability, crew support and engineering systems
  • Review engineering deliverables and classification society documentation against contracted timeframes
  • Identify technical risks and hazards, working with the System Safety team to assess and manage them
  • Support requirements management, stakeholder engagement and development of junior engineering staff

Required

  • Current NV1 security clearance
  • Strong technical expertise in outfitting systems and engineering design, ideally within a maritime or shipbuilding context
  • Experience in design review, design acceptance or technical certification processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proactive mindset with attention to detail and a commitment to project deadlines

We value expertise, collaboration and flexibility, providing our people with opportunities to contribute to meaningful and technically challenging projects.

We can offer great work, great people, great culture, great conditions, and an all-round great time whilst you continue building a rewarding career in the Defence and national security sector. As part of IAG, you’ll be joining a team of more than 250 professionals.
