About Us

IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is part of IAG, a specialist advisory firm supporting complex infrastructure, Defence and national security programs across Australia. Our DNS team works closely with Commonwealth agencies and industry partners to deliver specialist expertise into nationally significant programs. Our success depends on our ability to identify, engage and mobilise highly specialised talent quickly and effectively. IAG is recognised as a Veteran Friendly Employer under the Veteran Employment Program.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to support a major Defence capability transition program focused on the integration of next-generation autonomous air capabilities into operational environments. This role will suit a strategic thinker with experience in Defence facilities, infrastructure planning and capability development. Working within a complex stakeholder environment, you will help define infrastructure requirements, basing concepts and support options that enable future air operations across Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. You will play a key role in analysing infrastructure options, developing decision-support materials and ensuring facility and training area considerations are integrated into capability planning activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality facilities concepts, requirements and infrastructure support options for future Defence capabilities.
  • Produce decision briefs, concept papers and strategic documentation to support capability planning and investment decisions.
  • Identify and interpret relevant legislation, policies, frameworks and infrastructure requirements to inform capability outcomes.
  • Conduct analysis of airbase, training area and supporting infrastructure options to support future operational requirements.
  • Assess Main Operating Bases, Forward Operating Bases, Contingency Operating Sites, Forward Arming and Refuelling Points and training area infrastructure requirements.
  • Engage with Defence, industry and external stakeholders to gather information, manage risks and support informed decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across technical, operational and executive levels. Identify capability, infrastructure and delivery risks and provide recommendations for mitigation.
  • Support capability transition activities through planning, coordination and delivery of key artefacts and documentation.
  • Contribute to strategic planning activities relating to Defence infrastructure, facilities and operational support requirements.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience delivering facilities, infrastructure or estate-related outcomes within Defence capability programs.
  • Strong understanding of Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) and their application within Defence environments.
  • Experience developing high-level facilities concepts, infrastructure strategies and support solutions for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong Defence writing skills with the ability to prepare decision briefs, strategic reports and executive-level documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with experience working across Defence, industry and government environments.
  • Ability to analyse complex operational, infrastructure and capability challenges and develop practical recommendations.
  • Experience supporting capability development, transition or acquisition programs.
  • Understanding of airbase infrastructure, training areas or operational support environments will be highly regarded.
  • Strong coordination, planning and project support skills with the ability to work under limited direction.
  • Experience engaging with geographically dispersed stakeholders and supporting site-based activities.

Additional Information

  • Contract duration: Approximately 8–10 weeks, up to a maximum of 3 months.
  • Location: ACT, with potential travel to Defence sites across Australia.
  • Security Clearance: NV2 security clearance required.
  • Australian Citizenship required.
