The Role

We are seeking experienced professionals with expertise in AI-enabled workforce planning, predictive analytics, workforce intelligence, enterprise architecture, data science, AI governance and strategic workforce transformation to support a significant Australian Government initiative exploring the future of workforce planning across the Australian Public Service (APS). This opportunity will focus on assessing and shaping an AI-enabled Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) solution capable of delivering advanced workforce insights across a large and complex government environment. The role will contribute to the development of a shared workforce planning capability designed to support workforce forecasting, skills identification, talent mobility, reskilling pathways and workforce risk management through the application of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. Working closely with senior stakeholders, workforce planning practitioners, HR specialists, data professionals and technology teams, you will help evaluate and develop innovative approaches that support evidence-based workforce decision-making and future workforce readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, assessment and development of AI-enabled workforce planning solutions.
  • Contribute to workforce analytics, predictive modelling and workforce intelligence initiatives.
  • Support the integration and analysis of workforce, skills, labour market and organisational datasets.
  • Develop approaches to establish and maintain dynamic skills inventories and workforce capability baselines.
  • Assist in the identification of workforce risks, critical capability gaps and future skill requirements.
  • Support workforce scenario modelling, forecasting and strategic workforce planning activities.
  • Contribute to workforce mobility, talent pathway and reskilling capability initiatives.
  • Develop reports, presentations, business cases and strategic planning artefacts for senior stakeholders.
  • Support AI governance, ethical AI implementation and responsible use of AI within government environments.
  • Collaborate with technology, workforce strategy, data, HR and executive stakeholders to support solution development and adoption.
  • Evaluate solution scalability, usability and capability across diverse organisational environments.
  • Support alignment with APS policy, privacy, security and information management requirements.

About You

You are an experienced workforce planning, AI, data, analytics or digital transformation professional with the ability to translate complex workforce challenges into practical, data-driven solutions. You have experience working with enterprise datasets, predictive analytics, AI-enabled technologies or workforce transformation initiatives and are comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You understand the importance of responsible AI, effective governance and data quality, and can contribute to workforce planning outcomes that support future capability, organisational resilience and strategic decision-making.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in workforce planning, workforce analytics, people analytics, AI-enabled solutions or enterprise data initiatives.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and data integration activities.
  • Experience developing predictive analytics, forecasting models, workforce intelligence or scenario planning solutions.
  • Knowledge of AI technologies, machine learning techniques and data-driven decision-making approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop reports, business cases, presentations and strategic recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Experience supporting digital transformation, organisational change or capability development initiatives.
  • Understanding of AI governance, ethical AI principles, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Australian citizenship and a current AGSVA NV1.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation or enterprise-wide capability programs.

Additional Information

Location: Canberra preferred; other locations may be considered.

Work arrangement: Hybrid arrangements may be available, subject to client requirements.
