Description

We’re building aircraft that fly faster, further, and to space.

Hypersonix is an Australian aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing company building hydrogen-powered scramjet aircraft. We work at the bleeding edge of hypersonic technology, delivering aircraft that fly faster, reach further, and open new pathways to space – and we’re a small, highly capable team doing work that genuinely matters.

The Opportunity

As an Avionics Engineer II, you’ll play an important role in the selection, development, integration and qualification of all avionics and power systems in our DART vehicle. You’ll be a key member of the flight test team, providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

This is a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge hypersonic technology and make a real impact in a high-growth environment. If you’re passionate, innovative and want true autonomy to do your best work, we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and review of avionics, power, and support system requirements
  • Contribute to end-to-end avionics system design for the DART vehicle
  • Run trade studies to select COTS components and guide bespoke development
  • Design and deliver wiring harnesses, collaborating closely with technicians on build
  • Partner with suppliers and technical stakeholders, leading key engineering interactions
  • Execute subsystem testing (EMI/EMC, vibration, thermal, shock) to validate performance
  • Bring systems to life — set up, characterise, and prepare for modelling and verification
  • Drive integration and troubleshooting, ensuring systems are assembly-ready
  • Plan and deliver verification and environmental testing across systems
  • Operate within a structured engineering management framework
  • Maintain strong adherence to policies, standards, and company values

Life at Hypersonix

We’re a 60-person company moving fast in one of the most demanding fields in aerospace. The pace is fast, expectations are high and the environment is constantly evolving. The people who thrive here are energised by that — not unsettled by it.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Take ownership of your work and keep things moving, even when the picture isn’t complete
  • Care about doing things well and getting them done — and learn to balance both
  • Stay calm and constructive when priorities shift.

What You’ll Bring

To hit the ground running in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or STEM discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working with embedded electronic systems, ideally in aerospace applications.
  • Experience or detailed knowledge of low voltage battery power systems.
  • Flight Test instrumentations or telemetry system experience in a test environment.
  • Demonstrated independent problem-solving, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain any applicable security clearance or background checks.
  • Right to live and work in Australia.

 Bonus points for:

  • Experience participating in flight test campaigns
  • Flight Test instrumentations or telemetry system experience
  • Experience using the NX package including Capital logic for harnessing
  • Unmanned aerial systems experience.

Ready to Fly Faster?

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary
  • Equity participation
  • Flexible working – we care about output, not hours
  • Funded Professional development
  • Confidential Employee Assistance Program
