Our NULCA-certified team uses advanced technologies like electromagnetic induction and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to accurately locate underground services—ensuring safety, efficiency, and project confidence. 

About the Position 

We are seeking a skilled Utility Locator to join our team in Melbourne. Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Utility Locator will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities, including water, gas, electricity, communication lines, and other services. This role is crucial in protecting infrastructure and ensuring site safety by preventing damage to existing services.​ 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Locate and mark underground utilities using EM, GPR, and acoustic equipment. 
  • Interpret BYDA plans and verify utility locations on-site. 
  • Accurately record utility data with GPS and total station tools. 
  • Maintain and calibrate locating equipment and company vehicles. 
  • Complete SWMS and follow all OH&S and safe digging practices. 
  • Produce as-built utility drawings and ensure data accuracy. 
  • Use CAD software to reduce raw survey data. 
  • Communicate findings clearly with project teams and site staff. 
  • Report discrepancies and safety concerns to the Utilities Manager. 

Key Skills & Competencies 

  • Strong technical knowledge of utility locating technologies (e.g., EM, GPR, acoustic).​ 
  • Ability to interpret utility plans and drawings.​ 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in marking and recording utility locations.​ 
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.​ 
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.​ 

Qualifications 

  • Certloc (CLO) certification or willingness to obtain.​ 
  • Proficiency in using utility locating equipment and related software.​ 
  • Current Australian driver’s license.​ 
  • Experience in the surveying field is desirable as well.
