Casual Grounds & Maintenance Officer – Canberra Holiday Village, located in Symonston, ACT, Canberra Holiday Village offers a range of accommodation options including cabins, caravan sites, camping sites, and long-stay accommodation. Conveniently positioned close to Canberra’s major attractions, the park provides quality facilities and a welcoming environment for holidaymakers, workers, and long-term guests alike.

We are currently seeking a motivated and hands-on Grounds & Maintenance Officer to join our team on a casual basis.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining the presentation, safety, and functionality of the park grounds, accommodation surrounds, facilities, and common areas to a high standard. Working closely with the Park Manager, you will assist with the day-to-day upkeep of the property to ensure guests enjoy a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment.

The role involves physically demanding work, including regular manual handling and lifting, along with the safe operation of power tools, landscaping equipment, and maintenance machinery.

Flexibility to work across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays as required is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, hedging, pruning, and landscaping
  • Maintain the presentation of gardens, roads, pathways, accommodation surrounds, and common areas
  • Operate and maintain gardening and maintenance equipment safely and effectively
  • Assist with the upkeep of park facilities including amenities blocks, camp kitchen, BBQ areas, recreation facilities, laundry facilities, and guest common areas
  • Carry out minor repairs, painting, cleaning, and general maintenance tasks as required
  • Ensure park presentation standards are maintained at all times
  • Identify maintenance issues and report them promptly to management
  • Assist contractors and tradespeople when required
  • Support safe work practices and maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Assist with general property upkeep and operational requirements as needed

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, gardening, property maintenance, or a similar role

  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to perform manual tasks including lifting, carrying, bending, and repetitive physical activities
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate power tools and maintenance equipment
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable, proactive, and safety-focused attitude
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high presentation standards
  • Friendly and professional approach when interacting with guests, residents, contractors, and team members

You will be competent in the use of equipment such as:

  • Ride-on mowers
  • Hedge trimmers
  • Whipper snippers
  • Chainsaws
  • Leaf blowers
  • Pressure cleaners
  • High-powered hand tools
