At Honour and Plais Early Learning, we understand that nutrition plays a vital role in the development and wellbeing of children. Our Cook/Chef is responsible for preparing and delivering nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks to children attending the centre, in line with seasonal menus and dietary requirements. This role is essential to ensuring a safe, efficient, and joyful food environment that supports our educational and care goals.
Working closely with the Centre Manager and under the guidance of the Catering Manager, the Cook/Chef ensures the kitchen operates in line with food safety standards, child nutrition best practices, and company policies.
About you
Experience: Minimum 1 years’ experience in Early Childhood setting or 3 years’ experience in similar industries.
Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (highly desirable)
- Experience in a similar role, preferably in a childcare or aged care setting
- Understanding of nutrition and dietary needs for children aged 0–5 years
- Current Food Safety Supervisor certificate
- Active and valid Blue Card
- First Aid and CPR certified
Skills: You are organised, adaptable, and proactive, with a genuine passion for food and child nutrition. You work respectfully with children and colleagues, and take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment.
Your role as a Early Childhood Cook you will be responsible for
- Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals and snacks in accordance with the centre’s rotating seasonal menu and individual dietary requirements.
- Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety, adhering to HACCP and centre-specific food safety plans and procedures.
- Kitchen Management: Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked kitchen; ensure food is stored correctly and equipment is maintained.
- Dietary Compliance: Tailor meals for children with allergies, intolerances, and cultural or religious dietary needs; update and follow daily dietary requirement lists.
- Record Keeping: Complete and maintain accurate food safety records including temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and dietary logs.
- Collaboration: Work in partnership with the Centre Manager, Educators, and the Catering Manager to align meal service with programming and daily schedules.
- Menu Feedback: Actively seek and respond to feedback from children, families, and staff to improve menu offerings and meal enjoyment. – Special Events: Assist with food preparation for centre events and celebrations when required.
