Our Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our Redbank Plains centre. Working alongside our Chef, your main focus will be supporting the day-to-day kitchen operations and helping deliver our catering service to the children.
This hands-on role will include food preparation, dishwashing, delivering meals to classrooms, completing food safety records, assisting with the daily kitchen close-down and supporting the smooth running of the kitchen each day.
We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, develop their skills and step up to run the kitchen when the Chef is away. Training and support will be provided to help the successful applicant build confidence in this area.
You will also support our in-house café offering for families, helping create a friendly and welcoming experience for parents and visitors.
The role is expected to be approximately five hours per day, typically from 10:30am to 3:30pm, making it a great opportunity for a reliable, organised and people-focused team member who enjoys a varied role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Chef with the daily preparation and service of meals for children.
- Deliver meals and collect dishes from classrooms.
- Complete dishwashing and maintain a clean, organised and well-presented kitchen.
- Assist with food preparation and the day-to-day organisation of deliveries and kitchen stock.
- Complete required food safety checks, records and documentation.
- Assist with the afternoon kitchen close-down.
- Learn the daily kitchen processes and procedures.
- Step up to run the kitchen and provide coverage during periods of Chef leave or absence, when required.
- Support the operation and presentation of the in-house café.
- Prepare and serve café beverages and provide friendly service to families.
- Operate and maintain coffee machines and other café equipment.
- Follow all food handling, hygiene, allergy management and safety procedures.
- Assist with other kitchen and centre duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Kitchenhand or in a similar role.
- A willingness to learn, develop new skills and take on additional responsibility.
- Confidence or an interest in progressing toward independently running the kitchen when required.
- A friendly, reliable and hands-on approach to your work.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Café or barista experience would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in early childhood education or childcare would be advantageous.
- A current Blue Card, or willingness to obtain one.
