Harbison is a charitable, community-owned, not-for-profit organisation that provides residential and non-residential care and support services for aged or disabled people, including a range of support services and systems to assist aged and disabled people to achieve maximum independence and integration within a residential or community setting, education and training of professionals and other care providers, and activities which are incidental or conducive to these objectives.

Currently, Harbison is an approved aged care provider, registered NDIS provider, approved childcare provider, retirement village owner, and one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. Harbison is governed by a Board of Directors which appoints a Chief Executive Officer who is delegated with day-to-day responsibility for the organisation.

 

Primary purpose of the role

The Hairdresser is responsible for delivering professional hairdressing services that enhance the Wellness, dignity and quality of life of Harbison residents. Working as part of a person-centred care environment, the Hairdresser provides a range of hair care and styling services while fostering meaningful connections with residents and ensuring a positive, welcoming salon experience.

The role contributes to residents’ confidence, self-esteem and overall Wellness by providing high-quality services that reflect individual preferences, needs and personal style. All duties are performed in accordance with Harbison’s values, policies, procedures and relevant workplace health and safety requirements.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide professional hairdressing services including shampooing, cutting, styling, blow drying, setting, colouring and other treatments within the scope of qualifications and experience.
  • Deliver services in a respectful, compassionate and resident-focused manner that supports individual choice and dignity.
  • Consult with residents regarding their hair care preferences and provide appropriate recommendations where required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming salon environment in accordance with infection prevention and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure all hairdressing tools, equipment and workstations are cleaned, sanitised and maintained appropriately.
  • Manage appointment schedules, walk-ins and resident bookings and process customer payments in a timely and organised manner.
  • Monitor stock levels of salon products and supplies and advise the Beauty and Wellness manager when replenishment is required.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided and any relevant resident information in line with organisational requirements.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with residents, families, visitors and colleagues maintaining a high level of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with care teams regarding resident needs where appropriate.
  • Adhere to Harbison’s policies, procedures, values and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Participate in mandatory training, meetings and continuous improvement activities as required.
  • Promote a positive culture that reflects Harbison’s commitment to respect, compassion, excellence and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Certificate III in Hairdressing or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Previous experience providing hairdressing services in a salon, community or aged care environment.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods and work comfortably with your hands.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and build rapport with older people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage appointments effectively.
  • Knowledge of infection control, workplace health and safety and safe work practices.
  • Commitment to providing person-centred services that support resident Wellness and choice.
