Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) works to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

GAC represents the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. GAC was established in 1996 following negotiations with Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, to advocate for the collective interests of the Traditional Owners.

We are a membership-based organisation and serve around 2,000 Members across Western Australia, Australia and the world.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join the team in our Perth Office on a 12-month Fixed Contract (with the possibility of extension).

 You will primarily be supporting the Finance Manager and Accountant with the preparation, examination and analysis of accounting records, budgets and financial statements; as well as performing bank reconciliations, month-end journal postings and preparation of balance sheets.

 

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and process month-end journals
  • Assist with month-end and year-end reporting
  • Support the AP and AR team as required
  • Assist with the preparation of the BAS, FBT returns and other statutory reporting obligations.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end close processes and reports including variance analysis and preparation of working papers.
  • Assist with the annual budget planning process, liaising with budget holders and collating submissions.
  • Assist with the grant acquittals.

ABOUT YOU

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance
  • Newly-qualified or working toward CA/CPA.
  • Proven month-end and year-end processing experience.
  • High-level accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft 365.
  • Previous experience using NetSuite is an advantage.
