Description

Summary:

This role is responsible for management of the Group’s tax compliance, reporting, and risk obligations across income tax, GST, stamp duty, and withholding tax, with particular focus on the tax issues relevant to an ASX-listed A-REIT / funds management.

Responsibilities:

  • External Advisor & Compliance Management: Co-ordinate group’s tax compliance calendar (income tax, GST/BAS/FBT/payroll tax/MIT/AMMA statements), manage day-to-day relationship with external tax consultants/advisors, review deliverables for accuracy and commercial relevance.
  • REIT/Trust taxation: Manage compliance with the Attribution Managed Investment Trust (AMIT) regime; Oversee Div 6/6C trust taxation issues and eligibility for concessional tax treatment; Calculate and review taxable income, distributable income, and tax components of distributions each period; Manage Managed Investment Trust (MIT) withholding tax obligations on distributions to foreign unitholders; support Pillar 2 reporting requirements.  
  • Transaction and Structuring support: Provide tax input on property acquisitions and divestments, including stamp duty, GST (margin scheme/going concern), and land tax implications; Support due diligence on M&A, joint ventures, and fund establishment; Advise on tax-efficient structuring for new funds, co-investment vehicles, and financing arrangements (including thin capitalisation and interest withholding tax).
  • Tax Accounting& Reporting: Prepare/review tax effect accounting entries and deferred tax balances under AASB 112 for statutory accounts; Liaise with external auditors on tax provisions, disclosures, and half-year/year-end tax notes; Support forecasting and budgeting of tax cash flows and distributable income for the finance team and investor reporting.
  • TaxRisk & Governance; Maintain and embed the group’s Tax Risk Management and Governance Policy; Monitor legislative and regulatory change and assess impact on thegroup; Manage ATO   engagement; Maintain tax governance documentation to support Board and Audit Committee reporting.

Qualifications:

  • CA/CPA and/or Master of Tax qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Law, or related discipline.
  • 6+ years’ tax experience, including time in a Big 4 or similar chartered firm.
  • Direct experience with A-REITs, property trusts, or funds management structures (in-house or as an external advisor to the sector) highly regarded.
  • Working knowledge of the MIT/AMIT regime, Division 6C, and trust distribution mechanics.
  • Experience managing external advisor relationships and budgets.
  • Exposure to property transactions (stamp duty, GST) and cross-border investor withholding tax.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge balanced with commercial pragmatism.
  • Able to translate complex tax technical issues for non-tax stakeholders (finance, treasury, investor relations, Board).
  • Strong stakeholder management — comfortable managing advisors, auditors, and internal finance/treasury teams.
  • High attention to detail and strong process/compliance discipline.
  • Proactive in monitoring legislative change and assessing business impact.
