You have experience coordinating medical care, rehabilitation programs, or animal welfare services, and are confident working closely with veterinarians, foster carers, and operational teams to ensure the best possible outcomes for animals in care. You have strong administrative and communication skills, with the ability to manage medical records, coordinate appointments, monitor treatment plans, and provide timely updates to key stakeholders.

You bring a sound understanding of animal health and welfare principles, rehabilitation processes, and compliance requirements. Your ability to identify health concerns, coordinate appropriate interventions, and support recovery programs contributes to positive welfare outcomes and successful rehoming pathways for greyhounds.

About this role!

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of medical care, rehabilitation and welfare for greyhounds within our rehoming program.

Reporting to the relevant manager, the Medical Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating at the Londonderry facility veterinary care and rehabilitation services for greyhounds in care. This includes managing medical assessments, treatment plans, rehabilitation programs, veterinary appointments and health records to ensure each greyhound receives timely and appropriate care.

The role works closely with veterinarians, foster carers, rehoming staff, and other stakeholders to support the medical treatment, recovery, and ongoing wellbeing of greyhounds throughout their journey to adoption. The Medical Care Coordinator is also responsible for maintaining accurate medical documentation, monitoring health outcomes, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare legislation, organisational policies, and best-practice standards.

This role is integral to achieving positive welfare outcomes and preparing greyhounds for successful rehoming by providing effective coordination of medical care, rehabilitation, and health management services.

Key Responsibilities

As the Medical Care Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate and oversee the medical care, treatment, and rehabilitation of greyhounds within the Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) program.
  • Monitor the health and welfare of greyhounds, identifying and responding to illness, injury, or behavioural concerns in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and manage veterinary appointments, specialist consultations, surgical procedures, vaccinations, and ongoing treatment plans.
  • Implement and oversee rehabilitation programs, including hydrotherapy and post-operative recovery plans, to support positive welfare outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, treatment histories, and rehabilitation plans for all greyhounds in care.
  • Liaise with veterinarians, specialists, and other stakeholders to coordinate medical and rehabilitation services.
  • Provide guidance and support to kennel staff in relation to animal health, medication administration, and medical procedures.
  • Monitor and manage medical supplies, medications, and rehabilitation equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support compliance with animal welfare legislation, veterinary guidelines, and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Prepare health and welfare reports and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support the wellbeing and successful rehoming of greyhounds.
  • Promote a positive and professional culture through effective communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.

About Your Skill Set!

  • Experience coordinating animal health, veterinary, rehabilitation or welfare programs, preferably within a greyhound facility, animal shelter, veterinary or related environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal health, injury management, rehabilitation processes and animal welfare principles.
  • Experience liaising with veterinarians, veterinary specialists, and other animal care professionals.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases, appointments and competing priorities.
  • Experience maintaining accurate medical records and managing confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, foster carers, veterinarians and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to monitor treatment plans, identify concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and care.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with record management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and their application in an animal care environment.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Relevant qualifications in veterinary nursing as a minimum.
  • Other relevant qualifications in animal studies, animal welfare or a related field are desirable.
