You are an experienced animal care professional with a passion for greyhound welfare and a proven ability to lead and motivate a team. You thrive in a hands-on environment and enjoy balancing operational responsibilities with coaching, mentoring and supporting others to deliver exceptional standards of animal care.

You have experience working in a kennel, boarding, animal welfare, veterinary or similar environment and are confident handling dogs with a range of temperaments and needs. You understand the importance of maintaining high standards of welfare, safety and compliance while ensuring daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.

As a natural leader, you can build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, adopters and industry stakeholders. You are organised, adaptable and solutions-focused, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

About this role!

Greyhounds as Pets is seeking an experienced and motivated Kennel Attendant Team Leader to lead our kennel operations team and help deliver exceptional care and welfare outcomes for greyhounds in our program.

This rewarding role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the kennel facility, ensuring the health, welfare, enrichment and care needs of all greyhounds are consistently met to the highest standard. You will provide leadership, guidance and support to a team of Kennel Attendants, fostering a positive, collaborative and safety-focused environment while ensuring daily operations run efficiently and effectively.

Working closely with the behaviour, medical, foster care and rehoming teams, you will play a key role in supporting the assessment, rehabilitation and successful adoption of greyhounds. This hands-on leadership position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of retired racing greyhounds while contributing to their journey towards finding loving forever homes.

Key Responsibilities

As the Kennel Attendant Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead, coach and support a team of Kennel Attendants to deliver exceptional standards of animal care.
  • Coordinate daily kennel operations, including rostering, workload allocation and team supervision.
  • Ensure greyhounds receive appropriate feeding, exercise, enrichment, grooming and health monitoring.
  • Monitor the health and wellbeing of greyhounds and respond appropriately to medical or behavioural concerns.
  • Administer medications and provide first aid in accordance with veterinary and organisational guidelines.
  • Support adoption and foster care activities, helping create positive experiences for prospective adopters and foster carers.
  • Coordinate and support volunteers and work placement participants on-site.
  • Maintain accurate animal welfare, health and compliance records.
  • Assist with stock control, procurement and facility management activities.
  • Represent the GAP program professionally with adopters, industry participants, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, animal welfare standards and organisational policies.

About Your Skill Set!

  • Certificate in Animal Studies (or equivalent) and/or demonstrated experience managing/leading an animal boarding facility or similar.
  • Excellent animal handling skills and demonstrated knowledge of canine behaviour and passion for animal welfare.
  • Proven experience in an animal kennel facility or similar environment, with the ability to lead, guide, and support a team effectively.
  • Current Full Driver’s license, willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours (reasonably).
  • Knowledge of GRNSW, the greyhound industry or animal welfare industry and the objectives of the GAP program. Experience with greyhounds, whilst not a pre-requisite, is highly desirable.
  • Highly motivated and driven, with the ability to lead by example and inspire others to deliver exceptional standards of care and service.
  • Superior organisational and time management skills including a demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise tasks to meet tight timeframes with an attention to detail.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills including a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders; experience managing conflict and grievances.
  • High level personal ethics, integrity, respect for others and an ability to deal professionally and effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • This role requires weekend availability.
  • Current Full Driver’s license, willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours (reasonably).
