You thrive in a relationship-focused role and enjoy building strong connections with foster carers, volunteers, adopters and colleagues to support greyhounds on their journey to finding a forever home.

You have experience coordinating programs, managing stakeholder relationships, or working within animal welfare, foster care, or a related field. You are confident balancing multiple priorities, coordinating placements, maintaining accurate records and providing exceptional support to a

diverse network of foster carers.

With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you can effectively engage, educate, and support foster carers throughout their foster care journey. You are proactive, approachable and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement.

You have a strong understanding of animal welfare principles and recognise the important role foster care plays in supporting the rehabilitation, socialisation and successful rehoming of greyhounds. You are committed to ensuring foster placements are well supported and that each greyhound’s individual needs are met through collaboration with carers, veterinary professionals, behavioural specialists and adoption teams.

About this role!

Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) is seeking a passionate and organised Foster Care Coordinator to lead and grow our foster care program.

This rewarding role is responsible for the development, coordination and ongoing management of foster placements, ensuring greyhounds are matched with safe, supportive and appropriate foster homes that promote their welfare, rehabilitation and successful transition to permanent adoption.

Working closely with foster carers, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders, you will play a key role in supporting positive welfare outcomes, enhancing the foster care experience and helping more greyhounds find loving forever homes.

Key Responsibilities

As the Foster Care Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) foster care program.
  • Recruit, assess, onboard, train and support foster carers, helping to grow and strengthen the foster network.
  • Match greyhounds with suitable foster homes based on their individual welfare, behavioural and medical needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with foster carers, providing ongoing guidance, education and support throughout the foster journey.
  • Monitor the wellbeing and progress of greyhounds in foster care and coordinate any required veterinary, behavioural or welfare support.
  • Coordinate foster placements, transfers, kennel returns, adoption transitions and other movements within the foster program.
  • Maintain accurate records across Salesforce and other databases, ensuring foster placements, dog movements and welfare updates are current and compliant.
  • Gather and document feedback from foster carers to ensure adoption profiles accurately reflect each greyhound’s personality, behaviour and suitability for a future home.
  • Collaborate closely with kennel, behaviour, medical and rehoming teams to support successful rehabilitation and adoption outcomes.
  • Promote the foster care program through community engagement activities, events and foster carer recruitment initiatives.
  • Monitor foster care capacity and develop strategies to increase foster carer engagement, retention and program growth.
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare legislation, organisational policies and best-practice standards.
  • Contribute to reporting, program evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance foster care and rehoming outcomes.

About Your Skill Set!

  • Qualification in animal studies and experience in animal welfare, animal care, foster care coordination or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of animal welfare principles and the care needs of companion animals.
  • Knowledge of greyhound/dog behaviour, welfare and rehoming practices – desirable.
  • Experience recruiting, training or supporting foster carers – desirable.
  • Understanding of relevant animal welfare legislation and industry standards.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and using database or case management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software systems.
  • Current driver’s licence.
