About You!
You are a qualified and passionate animal behaviour professional with a strong understanding of canine behaviour, learning theory and animal welfare. You are committed to improving outcomes for greyhounds through evidence-based behavioural assessment, training and rehabilitation.
You have experience conducting behavioural assessments, developing behaviour modification plans and supporting animals with a range of behavioural needs. You communicate confidently with adopters, foster carers, veterinary professionals and colleagues, providing practical advice and building positive relationships.
Highly organised and solutions-focused, you enjoy working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for animals in care. Experience with behaviourally complex cases, rehabilitation programs or animal welfare organisations will be highly regarded.
About this role!
Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) is looking for a passionate Animal Behaviourist to support the behavioural health, welfare and successful rehoming of greyhounds.
In this rewarding role, you’ll conduct behavioural assessments, develop behaviour modification programs and support greyhounds with a range of behavioural needs. You’ll work closely with adopters, foster carers, volunteers and staff, providing expert guidance to help greyhounds thrive in their new homes.
Working alongside our veterinary, welfare, kennel and rehoming teams, you’ll play an important role in delivering individualised care, supporting rehabilitation and helping every greyhound achieve the best possible rehoming outcome.
Key Responsibilities
As the Behaviourist, you will:
- Conduct behavioural and temperament assessments to identify individual needs and support successful rehoming outcomes.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based behaviour modification, rehabilitation and enrichment programs for greyhounds in care.
- Provide behavioural advice, education and post-adoption support to adopters, foster carers, volunteers and staff.
- Collaborate with veterinary, welfare, kennel and rehoming teams to develop and implement behavioural treatment and rehabilitation plans.
- Contribute to foster care and adoption decisions through professional behavioural assessments and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate behavioural records and ensure all practices align with animal welfare best practice and organisational standards.

About Your Skill Set!
- Qualifications in animal care, canine behaviour or a related field
- Proficient animal husbandry and handling skills.
- At least 1 year experience in animal behaviour modification
- Previous experience working in an animal shelter desirable.
- Administrative, data entry and computer proficiency skills highly desirable
- Current Full Driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, public holidays and overnight trips.
- Superior organisational and time management skills including a demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise tasks to meet tight timeframes.
- Strong communication skill with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- High level personal ethics, integrity, respect for others and an ability to deal professionally and effectively with a diverse range of people.
