THE ROLE

Forming part of our Wetherill Park team the Waste Operator is responsible for managing and processing incoming organic waste and carrying out the tasks necessary to ensure smooth operations. The position will also support biological services and separation/harvesting of by-products which involves the handling of live insects.

** To fit the role you must be comfortable with our environment – working with organic food waste as well as handling of live larvae.**

MAIN DUTIES

  • Manual handling of solid and liquid organic (food) waste materials
  • Manually removing contaminants from the waste stream e.g. glass, soft plastics and metal
  • Sorting and separating general waste, recycling and organic waste into individual piles and recording the information into the company digital database (MagOps)
  • Managing the processing of waste from receival through de-packing, maceration and delivery of MIB storage units
  • Operating waste handling machinery eg. bobcat, conveyor, de-packaging machines and performing autonomous maintenance (training and certifications offered to the right candidate)
  • Cleaning and maintaining waste management facilities, waste yard and all working areas and equipment to a high standard
  • Documenting inputs of organic waste and outputs of non organics into the digital platform at the end of each shift
  • Supporting service technicians with biological services – handling of live larvae before and after each cycle
  • Harvesting of live larvae and separation of by-products
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience from a similar role (preferred) in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating machinery such as bobcat, forklift and other equipment (advantageous)
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transport
  • The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, e.g. some lifting up to 20kgs, being on your feet for the duration of the shift and working directly with food waste and live larvae
  • A quick learner who enjoys working in a team environment
