We have an exciting opportunity for a Safe Haven Practice Lead to join our team. Reporting to the Safe Haven Practice Manager, the Safe Haven Practice Lead will support the development of the practice capacities throughout Glenhaven Family Care through training, consultation, development, review and documentation of best practice approaches. The Practice Lead will, through the implementation of best practice evidence-based approaches, guide the provision of high-level quality care and support to children / young people with complex needs living in the Glenhaven Family Care Safe Haven program and foster a nurturing and trusting environment that is conducive to therapeutic growth for children and staff.
This is a new, fulltime position based in our Northern Office in Launceston.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide support to the Program Manager, Assistant Program Manager and Practice Manager to deliver on the strategic objectives relating to practice improvement across Safe Haven.
• Collaborate with the House Managers and Team leaders and training coordinators to develop and maintain practice improvements to strengthen outcomes for children and young people.
• Lead and embed adherence to policies, DHHS standards, procedures, legislative, contractual expectations, and best practice.
• Support Managers and their teams to implement best practice approaches in their work with young people.
• Under the guidance of the Practice Manager, address and manage incidents, providing care, support, opportunities for practice reflection and behavioural support consultation. Engage in follow-up and feedback to staff and stakeholders, and appropriate recording and reporting.
• Play a key role in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with Aboriginal Controlled Organisations to ensure that there is a strong focus on culturally appropriate practice that increases cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and communities.
• Provide specialist Trauma Informed training to staff and processes for implementation in service delivery.
As the Safe Haven Practice Lead, you will have:
• Professional experience and relevant qualification(s) in social work, or a related discipline and/or diploma.
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience is essential.
• Demonstrated experience in leading practice within complex service delivery and approaches to the provision of services to vulnerable children, families and diverse communities is required.
• Experience and demonstrated contribution to care teams and ability to work with other stakeholders to achieve child and young person outcomes
• A strong knowledge and understanding of the Out of Home Care system, and/or the child and family services and/or broader social services sector and their fundamental practices and theories is required.
• Familiarity with Child Safety Services and relevant statutory frameworks (e.g., Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997; Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act 2023)
• A current (less than 12 months old) Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check or National Police Check or happy to submit to one.
• A current Working with Vulnerable People (NDIS endorsed) card or the ability to acquire.
• A current full Australian Driver’s licence (minimum P2s) is essential.
