Description

The Willaneen provides short term crisis accommodation for women and children who are escaping Family Violence. This position is within the Accommodation Services which is accessible to women and children escaping Family Violence. This accommodation service offers equal support to women regardless of age, race, culture, sexual preference and class.

This role is to support the individual needs of women and children, including property readiness for clients, and general support tasks as directed by Team Leader or Manager.

This position is to ensure the safety and security of residents residing at the Refuge.

This position is to provide general support to women and children during afterhours.

This role is not responsible for Client Case Management duties.

This role is not responsible for Client Intake and Assessment into Refuge.

Position Purpose

 This position will provide practical support within a crisis accommodation service for women and children experiencing family violence, contributing to a safe, culturally respectful and trauma-aware refuge environment, particularly during after-hours periods.

The role supports day-to-day residential operations, including maintaining a safe and welcoming environment and assisting with practical needs, while working alongside specialist staff responsible for intake, assessment and case management.

 

Key Selection Criteria 

·Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.

·Ability to provide practical, day to day support in a residential setting, to women and children who have experienced family violence, using a trauma aware and strength-based approach.

·Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to safety, wellbeing or risk concerns, with demonstrated capacity to promptly escalate issues to qualified staff in accordance with organisational procedures.

·Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team to support the safe and consistent operation of a residential crisis accommodation service, including respectful engagement with families where there may be Child Protection involvement.

·Ability to communicate information in a clear, concise, respectful, and culturally appropriate manner.

·Basic computer literacy, including experience using Microsoft Office and client record systems, with strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing operational demands.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

·Valid Victorian driver’s licence    ESSENTIAL

·Demonstrated equivalent expertise and experience in crisis accommodation, community services or a related field through a relevant four-year degree with at least two years’ relevant experience, a three-year degree with at least three years’ relevant experience, an associate diploma with relevant experience, substantial relevant experience supported by lesser formal qualifications, or an equivalent combination or qualifications, training, previous appointments, service and/or study    ESSENTIAL

·A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check    ESSENTIAL

·A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background    DESIRABLE

·Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements    ESSENTIAL
