Description

The Team Leader Housing Pathways and Tenancy Advocacy will operate under limited direction from the Senior Manager, Youth Services and Housing Pathways and undertake a range of functions following operational policies, practices, and guidelines.

This position will lead and support staff in the Youth Services and Housing Pathways unit, providing day to day operational management and oversight of the programs reporting to this role, including:

Aboriginal Tenancy Support and Advocacy (ATSA)

Aboriginal Private Rental Assistance Program (APRAP)

Children Youth Resources (CYR)

Housing Pathways Support Program (HPSP)

This position is within an exciting new unit at GEGAC which is growing in line with the Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework (Mana-na worn tyeen maar-takoort). This unit provides specialist housing and homelessness support and consultation to the other teams at GEGAC and external stakeholders.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.

 

Position Purpose

The Team Leader Housing Pathways and Tenancy Advocacy provides operational and practice leadership within the Youth Services and Housing Pathways Unit, operating under broad direction from the Senior Manager, Youth Services and Housing Pathways.

The role leads the day-to-day coordination and continuous improvement of specialist housing and homelessness programs, including, including, Aboriginal Tenancy Support and Advocacy (ATSA), Aboriginal Private Rental Assistance Program (APRAP), Children Youth Resources (CYR), Housing Pathways Support Program (HPSP) and ensures the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe and responsive services that support Aboriginal individuals and families to secure and sustain housing

This position forms part of a new program at GEGAC which is growing in line with the Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework (Mana-na worn tyeen maar-takoort).

 

Key Selection Criteria 

·A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to, Aboriginal culture and communities with the ability to work in a culturally safe and respectful manner.

·Demonstrated ability to provide operational leadership, including supervising, training, supporting and developing staff within a team environment.

·Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and provide specialist support and advise across complex programs and service areas.

·Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and appropriately to a diverse range of stakeholders.

·Demonstrated ability to provide specialist knowledge and advise about the Residential Tenancies Act, 1997, with a thorough understanding of the local private, public and social housing sector.

·Excellent customer service skills with proven capacity to engage and develop positive working relationships with people and stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds including program clients, colleagues, businesses, other organisations, and the wider community.

·Knowledge and an understanding the causes and impacts of homelessness and demonstrated skills in holistic assessment and referral.

·Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities independently, maintain confidentiality, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

 

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

·Valid Victorian driver’s licence    ESSENTIAL

·Degree with substantial experience/post graduate qualification or associate Diploma with substantial experience    ESSENTIAL

·A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check    ESSENTIAL

·A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background    DESIRABLE

·Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements    ESSENTIAL
