Purpose of Role

The Senior Project Engineer (Fibre) is a pivotal role within GigaComm’s Networks and Infrastructure team, accountable for the successful delivery of fibre infrastructure projects. This position leads the end-to-end deployment of optic fibre networks, including backbone, distribution, and dark fibre builds within both GigaComm and third-party duct networks.

Through strong technical expertise and hands-on project management, the Senior Project Engineer ensures that buildings are efficiently connected to the GigaComm network, enabling the business to meet customer connection, premises activation, and sales growth targets.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the planning and detailed design of optical fibre networks across third-party street infrastructure.
  • Utilise QGIS and other GIS tools for accurate route mapping, feasibility assessments, and network planning.
  • Manage automatic duct reservation systems (e.g., InfraCo) to secure pathways for fibre deployment.
  • Develop high-level and low-level designs (HLD/LLD) for fibre rollouts, ensuring alignment with engineering and operational standards.
  • Liaise with local authorities, utility providers, and third-party infrastructure owners to secure permits and approvals.
  • Oversee capacity planning and optimise duct, chamber, and fibre utilisation to maximise efficiency.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure build feasibility and provide technical support during deployment.
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Anticipate risks to rollout schedules and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide reporting and updates on planning status, readiness, and delivery milestones to senior leadership.

Skills & Experience

  • 5–7 years’ experience in the telecommunications or fibre deployment industry.
  • Strong expertise in fibre network planning, site acquisition, and street-level design.
  • ·High proficiency in QGIS (or similar GIS applications) for spatial analysis, route planning, and network mapping.
  • Hands-on experience with duct reservation systems such as InfraCo or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of third-party infrastructure coordination, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience in delivering HLDs/LLDs and network design documentation.
  • Skilled in stakeholder management, including external authorities, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards for fibre rollout projects.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM/project management systems desirable.
