About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fibre FTTP Designer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and planning Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) access networks that deliver high-speed connectivity to homes and businesses. You’ll play a critical part in shaping the future of digital infrastructure. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telecommunications infrastructure, particularly fibre optic networks, and will be responsible for ensuring that all design outputs meet technical and regulatory requirements. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor and train subcontractors to deliver high quality designs 
  • Drive design outcomes with subcontracting teams (drafters) 
  • Design and plan FTTP networks using GIS and CAD tools 
  • Conduct site surveys and feasibility assessments when required  
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, including splicing plans and cable routes 
  • Collaborate with property, construction, and project management teams 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including design rules and Australian telecommunications regulations. 
  • Provide technical support during implementation and troubleshooting 
  • Stay current with emerging fibre technologies and design methodologies 
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies as required. 
  • Liaise with construction teams to ensure design intent is maintained during build. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for all design activities. 

Required Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Civil Engineering, or related field. 2-5 years of experience in fibre network design 
  • Strong understanding of FTTP technologies  
  • Proficiency in GIS and CAD software (e.g., Visio, AutoCAD, GIS, MapInfo, SpatialNET). 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. 
  • Knowledge of WHS and environmental compliance in infrastructure projects. 

Desirable: 

Experience with other technologies (FTTC, FTTN, HFC, GFAST).
