BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Manager – Media and Communications is responsible for creating and executing
compelling internal and external media and communications agenda that promotes Football
Australia’s narrative across all levels and to stakeholders, with a focus on corporate
communications.
This role ensures Football Australia’s messaging is consistent, engaging, and reflective of
our strategic priorities, helping to differentiate our brand in a competitive sporting landscape.
This role will require domestic and international travel.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Partner with the Head of Corporate Affairs and Director of Media & Communications to deliver communication strategies aligned with Football Australia’s values and corporate objectives.
- Contribute to strategic communications, campaigns and departmental priorities, while delivering engaging communications that support Football Australia’s competitions, programs and national teams.
Media Operations & Management
- Lead media and communications activities across Football Australia’s competitions, national teams and major events, including media opportunities, public announcements and key communication materials.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality messaging across internal and external communications, while managing key corporate communications activities and maintaining strong relationships with media, broadcast partners and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain effective media processes that support operational excellence and protect Football Australia’s reputation.
Operational Excellence & Industry Awareness
- Oversee media operations, including accreditation, budgets and compliance, while ensuring activities are delivered efficiently and in line with organisational standards.
- Monitor the media landscape and emerging trends to identify opportunities, manage issues and inform Football Australia’s communications approach.
Corporate Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare communication materials for the CEO, Chair and executive team, including speeches, briefing papers and media resources.
- Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver integrated communications that strengthen Football Australia’s reputation and engagement.
ROLE OUTCOMES/ DELIVERABLES
- Drive measurable improvements in the quality, reach and impact of Football Australia’s media and communications activities.
- Deliver operational excellence through efficient processes, governance and continuous improvement.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships that enhance Football Australia’s reputation and partnerships.
- Foster digital innovation by leveraging data, content and emerging communication channels to grow audience engagement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven high-level organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- In-depth knowledge of media industry practices with strong relationships across TV, print, radio, and digital platforms
- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary media, PR, and corporate communications projects under tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong research capabilities
- Experience liaising with brand operations and comprehensive understanding of brand strategy and fields of marketing
- 5 years’ experience in Communications and Media
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in communications
