GIS Officer

Location: Based in Northam, WA

Contract: Permanent Part-Time (1 day per week)

Hourly Rate: $42.10 per hour

Wheatbelt NRM is seeking a motivated and technically skilled GIS Officer to support spatial data and mapping needs across the organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to contribute meaningfully to environmental projects while maintaining flexibility with a one-day-per-week schedule.

Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management is a non-profit organisation working in partnership with community, biodiversity, agriculture and government to provide regional leadership and direction for sustainable land use and the conservation of natural resources in the Avon River Basin of Western Australia. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare maps, documents, and digital tools using spatial data

• Manage and maintain spatial databases

• Support project teams with GIS tools and analysis

• Contribute to data collection, storage, and reporting processes

• Identify workflow improvements and support project milestones

Selection Criteria

Applicants must address the following criteria in a cover note, supported by a resume with 2 referees.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

• Experience in spatial database management, data acquisition, and software licensing

• Ability to perform basic spatial data analysis and a willingness to learn ESRI field apps

Time Management

• Ability to manage tasks efficiently within limited hours

• Experience improving workflows in part-time or project-based roles

Communication Skills

• Clear communication of spatial concepts to non-technical stakeholders

• Strong internal communication and collaboration skills

Self-Management

• Initiative and independence in managing spatial data

• Commitment to ethical standards, WHS, and equity principles

We aim for the sustainable use and enjoyment of the unique natural resources of the Wheatbelt. The Healthy Environments team works to protect and enhance the Wheatbelt’s biodiversity. The Sustainable Agriculture team focuses on sustainable, resilient agricultural systems and soil health. The Aboriginal NRM Program provides pathways to employment on country through Ranger programs and works to support the Ballardong Elders group to implement the Koort Boodjar – Mia Boodjar Aboriginal NRM Action Plan 2021-2026.
