Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) is the largest environmental legal centre in the Australia-Pacific, dedicated to protecting our climate, communities and shared environment by providing access to justice, running ground-breaking litigation and leading law reform advocacy.

The opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in contributing to EDO’s philanthropy capability. Working within a mission-driven organisation, you will help build the systems, insights and processes that enable impactful donor engagement, sustainable growth and meaningful change.
Partnering closely with key stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll lead philanthropy operations, systems and insights initiatives while championing our values of collaboration, inclusion and justice across the organisation.
You will have the opportunity to focus on embedding efficient and effective operational practices that enhance donor stewardship, reporting, compliance and philanthropic impact, contributing to a high-performing and sustainable fundraising function. Candidate Profile:
We are seeking a driven, committed and experienced philanthropy professional to join EDO’s philanthropy team as Philanthropy Operations & Insights Manager. You will bring experience in philanthropy operations, donor insights and fundraising support, with a proven ability to lead operational initiatives and strengthen systems and processes.
As a collaborative and values-driven professional, you will contribute to a positive team culture while supporting meaningful fundraising outcomes and strategic philanthropic growth.
Key Responsibilities include:
The key responsibilities of the Philanthropy Operations & Insights Manager include but are not limited to:
- Own and optimise the philanthropy CRM (currently Salesforce) and systems, ensuring data integrity, usability and alignment with fundraising strategy.
- Oversee accurate gift processing and data management with strong quality control and system integrity.
- Develop and embed scalable fundraising systems and processes for donor lifecycle management, including segmentation, moves management and pipeline tracking.
- Lead automation and workflow improvements to increase efficiency, reduce manual handling and enable scale.
- Deliver dashboards, reporting and forecasting to track income, pipeline health and performance against targets.
- Generate insights to inform strategy and optimise campaigns, appeals and donor journeys.
- Manage and refine the grants and reporting schedule, coordinating workflows, sign-offs and deadlines across teams.
- Identify and implement improvements to enable scale, efficiency and stronger donor outcomes.
- Maintain database relationship management processes, to plan, track and report on donor segments.
- Support the delivery of events (in person and online).
- Assist in the delivery of Philanthropy Appeals and the Annual Giving Program.
- Contribute to prospecting strategy through data analysis and identification of high-value opportunities, including trusts and foundations. Identify and implement continuous improvements to systems, processes and team capability to drive efficiency and stronger donor outcomes.
Key selection criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in philanthropy operations or, fundraising administration or donor services, with the ability to support strategic fundraising initiatives and organisational priorities.
- Experience managing and optimising CRM systems (preferably Salesforce), including maintaining data integrity, gift processing, reporting and donor lifecycle management processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience developing dashboards, reporting and insights to inform fundraising strategy, donor engagement and performance tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and improve systems, workflows and operational processes to increase efficiency, scalability and effective donor management outcomes.
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and coordinate competing priorities, deadlines and stakeholder requirements.

Working with clients face-to-face:
