About the Role
Port Latta operates as the export facility for the Savage River Mine, supporting the shipment of iron ore concentrate and pellets to international steelmaking markets. The operation runs 24/7 and includes shiploading, conveying and marine activities required to safely load and dispatch bulk carrier vessels.
This role is responsible for the safe and efficient loading of bulk iron ore vessels, monitoring conveyor systems and maintaining operational housekeeping standards. Supporting marine operations, including lineboat deckhand duties, this role consists of approximately 70 nightshift shipping days and 70 maintenance days annually.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate shiploader systems during vessel loading operations.
- Monitor conveyors, transfer points and loading equipment.
- Maintain effective communications with Loadmasters, Pilots and operational personnel.
- Complete operational logs and records accurately.
- Carry out hosing, cleaning and housekeeping duties.
- Perform greasing and basic equipment maintenance tasks.
- Report equipment faults, hazards and operational issues.
- Train and maintain competency as a Lineboat Deckhand.
- Assist with marine and lineboat operations when required.
- Follow site safety and operational procedures.
Skills & Attributes
- Highly developed leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of marine and safety legislation as well as environmental requirements.
- Ability to maintain positive and effective relationships on-board and with vessel crews.
- Safety leadership capability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Sound decision making and a proactive, confident approach to problem solving.
- Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and control own workload.
- Ability to work nightshift and in outdoor conditions
Minimum Qualifications
- General Purpose Hand (NC)
- MSIC or ability to obtain one
- Current Driver License
- Desirable Coxswain Qualifications or higher, maritime or line handling, bulk loading, ports or industrial operations experience.
Note: This role is residential. There will be a preference for the successful candidate to reside in the Port Latta area.
