VU Brisbane is a relatively new campus, designed to cater for international undergraduate and postgraduate students who want to study Business, IT and Early Childhood programs. Students at VU Brisbane experience a smarter, more engaging way to study with the award-winning VU Block Model, completing one subject at a time. Students learn in interactive, workshop-style classes where they get to know their teacher and classmates, put theory into practice, apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, and receive fast feedback on their assessments.

We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced individuals for several sessional academic lecturer roles to teach units (face-to-face and hybrid delivery) within and across our business and IT departments at our Brisbane campus.

The programs that successful applicants may be required to teach in include our:

  • Master of Business Analytics
  • Bachelor of Information Technology
  • Bachelor of Cyber Security
  • Bachelor of Data Science
  • Master of Applied Information Technology

(It is expected that VU Brisbane campus will also be introducing a Master of AI program from Semester 1, 2027)

Successful applicants would be expected to have expertise in one or more of the following subject areas:

Desired software tools and platforms

  • Proficiency in Python programming with data science and machine learning libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Experience using Jupyter Notebook for teaching, development, and data analysis
  • Skills in data visualisation and business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI and/or Tableau
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform and services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality lecturing/tutoring to students in accordance with VU curricula.
  • Manage VU Collaborate (VU’s online learning system) for your unit/s.
  • Create and maintain an innovative learning environment for students to meet learning outcomes and satisfactorily complete their assessment tasks.
  • Identify students who are ‘at risk’ of failing a unit and assist them via the appropriate referral to Course Coordinator (Business) / Learning Support Advisor.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Provide on-going student support both face to face and online through email/VU collaborate online learning system.
  • Assure the quality of the assessment and examination processes as directed by the Associate Director (Academic) / Course Coordinator (Business).
  • Support the Associate Director (Academic) / Course Coordinator (Business) when required through administrative requirements and completion of reports.
  • Adhere to VU policies and procedures as instructed by the relevant Associate Director (Academic).
  • Ensure Victoria University courses are offered in compliance with all legislative and quality requirements, particularly those prescribed by the ESOS Act.

As the successful candidate you will ideally have:

  • Postgraduate level qualification (PhD is essential for any postgraduate teaching) in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in teaching university level courses
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Relevant professional and industry experience
  • Experience with international students
  • Graduate certificate in tertiary teaching (desirable)
  • Cisco CCNA and/or CCNP certification (desirable)
  • Membership with relevant professional bodies (desirable)
